Open cut excavation and construction 2. construction using box culvert jacking method manual 3. construction using box culvert machine jacking method- using rectangular shield machine 4. Pipe roof construction and pipe jacking construction. Of these four methods, options 1 (open cut excavation) and 3 (using rectangular shield shield machines) can be used to construct longer distances. 2. China - box jacking using shield machines In China, research and application of the rectangular box jacking have gained grounds since the early 1990s. The first major rectangular pipe jacking construction was done in April 1999. When The Shanghai Institute of tunnel construction technology developed a 3.8 m 3.8 m rectangular box jacking machine for box construction. The Construction of Shanghai Metro Line 2 Lujiazui Station on the 5th entrance used earth pressure balance pipe jacking machine, and completed in two months the two tunnels.
