Acidity
Acidity is the world wide problem causing uneasiness and trouble in the life of people. It relates to the excess secretions of acid and enzymes by glands present in our stomach or more precisely gastric glands. A acid known as hydrochloric acid (HCl) secreted by wall of the stomach to facilitate digestion of food specially proteins and carbohydrates. This secretion of hydrochloric acid helps in initiating the secretion of certain necessary enzymes that helps in digestion of food. These enzymes like pepsin etc helps in breaking down of the complex food material in to simple compounds that are easily assimilated in body to provide energy. Hence the secretion of all these enzymes and acid is very essential but when these secretion get secreted beyond the normal limits it create lots of trouble to our body. These over secretions erodes the mucous membrane that lines the internal part of the stomach and thus internal organs get burned by the corrosive action of the acid the internal organs and the condition of acidity occurs.
Causes
Diets which are very refined and contain less quantity of fibers are culprit in causing acidity. Stress plays as another main factor in causing acidity. Consumption of excess of alcohol also effects the stomach linings that causes acidity Smoking also causes in damaging of stomach lining that leads to acidity. Consumption of spicy food, over eating and eating hurriedly causes acidity.
Home Remedies
Clove and cardamom (ilyachi) when sucked gives relief from acidity. In take cold milk helps in relieving from burning caused by acid. Intake of purely processed mint (pudina) is best remedy to relieve acidity. Banana (kela), water melon (tarbooz) and cucumber (kheera) also reduces heart burn. Consumption of fresh apple cider vinegar with honey in a glass of water before meals reduces the chance of acidity. Cumin seed boiled in water and the it is consumed with meals. Unripe food and fruits should completely be avoided as it contain high amount of pectin. preparing a herbal tea that contains spearmint and licorice is quite beneficial Drinking of water in early morning stored in lead container overnight has been beneficial in reducing acidity. Maintaining healthy lifestyle i.e. early to bed and early to rise reduces risk of secreting excessive acid in stomach. Usage of medicines like aspirin, diclofenac sodium and antibiotics should be avoided. Consuming 10grams of jaggery or gud or mishri (refined sugar) helps in curbing the acid reflux. Intake of cabbage and luffa juice helps in reducing acidity Onions and radish also promotes the secretion of hydrochloric acid hence they should be avoided. Avoid drinking water exactly before and after meals. Prepare a solution of one part baking soda to one part water and consume immediately after preparation. This will help settle the stomach acid. Add lemon juice (one lemon) to a glass of warm water, stir with a spoon and drink in one go. Cloves are very effective for indigestion as they contain properties which help the body secrete enzymes which temper the stomach acid. Carraway/ carom seeds are very effective indigestion cures. Mixing it with a pinch of rock salt will make it more effective. Another effective home remedy for indigestion is a cup of ginger tea with a slice of ginger cake. Smaller meals are easier for the body to digest. Avoid fatty or spicy foods as these can intensify the stomach acid Introduce more fiber into your diet. But at the same time avoid foods which contain large amounts of yeast, such as bread and pizzas as they hinder the digestion process. Put an inch of mango bark in a glass of water and boil it. Sieve the water and gargle with it while it is warm. Drink a glass of lemon juice mixed with honey dissolved in hot water. Mix with hot water. This should give immediate relief. Add 1/4 teaspoon of cayenne pepper to 1 cup of boiling water; stir well and sip slowly. It is also good for sore throat cure. Chew some pieces of garlic. Fenugreek's soothing mucilage may help relieve sore throat pain and cough. Prepare marshmallow root tea by adding 1 tablespoon of the dried root to a cup. Add a cup (8 ounces) of boiling water, steep it covered for at least 10 minutes then strain. Drink up to 3 cups a day. Pungent sage leaves have antiseptic, anti-inflammatory and decongestant properties. Bring 1 quart of water to a boil. Add 1 cup of honeysuckle flowers (not the leaves). Steep for at least 10 minutes, cover, then strain. Sweeten with honey if desired. Drink up to 4 cups a day. Use 1 part of the combination of glycerine and thymol to 3 parts of warm water as a gargle. Prepare Chamomile tea by adding 1 or 2 teaspoons of dried chamomile blossoms to a pint of boiling water; steep and drink a cup every few hours. Gargle with whisky and water also cures sore throat. Boil a few leaves of holy basil in water and gargle with that water. Cut a lemon into 2 pieces. Take one piece and put some salt and black pepper on it, press with a knife so that salt-pepper penetrates into the lime. Put the lemon on heat to make it warm. Slowly lick this lemon squeezing it until no juice remains. Do it 2-3 times a day. A hot epsom salt bath is highly beneficial. Gargle with warm salt water. It is an effective natural remedy for sore throat. Gargle with Aloe Vera juice two times daily. It is effective in curing sore throat
Mix one teaspoon of cinnamon powder with one teaspoon of lemon juice and apply on the affected areas. Prepare a paste of cinnamon powder and honey and apply it to your face at night before going to sleep. Wash it in the morning. Continue every night for 2 weeks. Garlic has antibiotic properties which are effective in pimple treatment. Use a whole garlic, make a paste and apply it on the face. Keep it on for 10-15 minutes and then remove the paste with a warm cloth. Wash your face. Apply the pulp of ripe tomato on the affected areas for at least 1 hour. After that wash it off. Apply the paste of fenugreek and let it remain for 15-20 minutes. Then wash off with warm water. Mix pounded orange peels with water and apply the paste on the affected areas. Mix lime juice with a paste of drumstick pods and leaves and apply it on the pimples. Apply lemon juice to pimples. This will reduce their size and intensity. Ground nutmeg mixed with milk removes pimples instantly. Blend raw papaya fruit with the skin and the seeds. Apply the juice on swelling pimples. Apply grated potato on the affected area. This is also effective for curing boils, whiteheads, blackheads, and other skin blemishes. Make a homemade facewash out of a combination of boiled milk and fresh lime juice. Apply mint every evening on the pimples and remove it the next morning. It also treats scabies, insect stings, skin infections, and eczema. Mix rose water and lime juice in the ratio of 1:1. Apply it on the pimples and leave it for 20-30 minutes. Wash it off with lukewarm water. Powder pomegranate skin and roast it. Mix this with lime juice to treat pimples effectively. This mixture could also treat whiteheads, blackheads, and boils.
Lying down and closing your eyes for half an hour or more is one of the best ways of treating headaches caused by stress. It is better to go to bed right at the onset of getting the headache. According to experts, resting in a darkened room can bring in much relief. Avoid reading or staring at a glowing computer screen. Wearing tinted glasses or using other means to filter bright light may help. Place a washcloth dipped in ice-cold water over the eyes. Applying this method at the onset of the headache will relieve the pain within 20 minutes for most. Another alternative is placing a warm washcloth over your eyes and leaving the compress on for half an hour. As stress headaches aggravate with tension, having pleasant thoughts may help. Relax your mind so that you can figure out a way to resolve the problem, which can help ward off headache-causing tension. Check tension behavior in yourself, such as clenching your jaw or wrinkling your brow. If you find yourself doing these things, stop, relax, and take a deep breath or two. This could help prevent headaches. Aromatherapy has been used for ages to cure stress headaches. It works equally well by using massage oils or inhaling different herbal oils. Avoid smoking as it can worsen a headache, especially if you suffer from cluster headaches -- extremely painful headaches that last from 5 to 20 minutes and come in groups. Drinking to excess often causes a pounding headache the next morning. Dark alcoholic beverages such as red wines, sherry, brandy, scotch, vermouth, and beer contain large amounts of tyramine, an amino acid that can spark headaches in people who are sensitive to it. Regular exercise, such as walking, jogging, and other aerobic activities helps release the physical and emotional tension that may lead to headaches.

Take cool baths for five to ten minutes. Repeat until the fever is down. Drink as much water as you can in order to replace fluid loss. It will also help to bring down body temperature. During fever do not take any supplement containing either iron or zinc. Taking iron causes extreme tension in a body that is fighting infection; and zinc is not absorbed by the body during fever. Many believe that you can bring down fever by replacing solid foods with plenty of distilled water and/or juices. A cup of fresh juice of apricots mixed with one teaspoon of glucose or honey is a very cooling drink during fevers. It quenches the thirst and eliminates the waste products from the body. It tones up the eyes, stomach, liver, heart, and nerves by supplying vitamins and minerals. Grapefruit juice is a very effective diet in all fevers. It quenches thirst and removes the burning sensation produced by the fever. Half a glass of grapefruit juice should be taken with an equal quantity of water. Oranges are excellent foods in all types of fever when the digestive power of the body is seriously hampered. Orange juice provides energy, increases urinary output, and promotes body resistance against infections, thereby hastening recovery. Boil water with 2 to 3 teaspoons of dry roasted fenugreek seeds. Strain the water and add a drop of clarified butter (ghee) to it and drink. A tea made from fenugreek seeds is equal in value to quinine in reducing fevers. This tea should be taken twice daily. It is particularly valuable as a cleansing and soothing drink. The juice or tender fresh leaves of the margosa (neem) tree are also effective in fevers. 1 tsp of the juice should be mixed with honey and should be taken twice a day. It works both as curative as well as preventive. Drink juice made out of sweet basil leaves twice or thrice a day. The leaves of holy basil are one of the most effective of several home remedies in the treatment of common fever. Drink the juice of the leaves of tamarind with some turmeric powder and cold water to get rid of infections and fever. Take linden tea by boiling 1 tbsp of linden flower in 1 cup of water. Drink it hot. Brew willow bark tea and drink it in small sips. Willow bark contains aspirin-related compounds. Hog weed is another herb found beneficial in the treatment of fever. It should be taken twice a day in the form of an infusion prepared by steeping 15 gm of the herb in 250 ml of water. It brings down temperature by inducing copious perspiration. Tea made from saffron is another effective home remedy for fever. This tea is prepared by putting half a teaspoon of saffron in 30 ml of boiling water. The patient should be given a teaspoon of this tea every hour till the temperature returns to normal.

Cut 100 gm of carrots and 60 gm of fresh coriander into small pieces and boil them for a while. Discard the residues. This soup should be taken once a day for treating chicken pox. An oatmeal bath is considered a natural remedy for relieving the itch due to chicken pox. Prepare the bath by cooking two cups of oatmeal in two liters of water for fifteen minutes. Put this mixture into a cloth bag, preferably cotton, and tie a string tightly around the top. Float this bag in a tub of warm water, and swish around until the water becomes turbid. Adding half a cup of brown vinegar to a bath of warm water will relieve the irritation of the skin. Smearing honey on the skin heals the skin in a very short time. The water in which fresh peas have been cooked can be used for washing the affected areas of the skin. This provides relief from itches. Put baking soda in a glass of water and sponge the affected areas. This will prevent the patient from scratching the eruptions. Rose water is a good application on the infected areas on the skin to give relief from itching and cool the skin well. It also helps external wounds heal faster. Prepare a mild sedative herbal tea using herbs like chamomile (babunah), basil (tulsi), marigold (zergul) and lemon balm (billilotan). A little cinnamon (dalchini), honey, and lemon may be added to this tea. It should be sipped slowly several times a day. Use Catnip tea sweetened with molasses. It reduces fever.

Institute life-style changes and regulate your life. Follow a regular daily schedule. Sleep at the same time every night and fix a bedtime ritual like reading or listening to music or praying. Exercise every day, go for a walk or do yoga. Do deep breathing exercises, meditate, chant. Go for a brisk walk after dinner and follow it up with a warm/hot bath. You can add aromatic oils like chamomile or lavender to your bath water to help you relax. Increase the melatonin content in your body by exposure to sunlight-this regulates your bodyclock. Change to a low salt diet. Avoid alcohol, caffeine ( tea,coffe, cola drinks), fatty or fried foods, products made with white flour. Eat foods that are rich in Vitamin B (viz wholegrain cereals, pulses and nuts) and magnesium (legumes, seeds, dark leafy vegetables,wheat bran, almonds, cashews, blackatrap molasses, brewers yeast, whole grains). These build strong nerves, help the body to relax and fall asleep. Include lettuce in your meals. You can also prepare a decoction by boiling a tablespoon of lettuce seeds in half a litre of water till it becomes a third of the original quantity. Take this decoction at night. Eat a lot of onion through the day. Have 2 teaspoons of fenugreek leaf juice with 1 teaspoon of honey at bedtime. Prepare tea by boiling a teaspoon of aniseed in about 375 ml of water for 15 minutes. Strain and drink hot before going to sleep. You may add honey and hot milk to the mixture. Drink a glass of warm milk, taken plain or with a teaspoon of honey at bedtime. Have 2 teaspoons of honey in a large glass of warm water at night. Have 3 cups of curd / plain yoghurt daily. Take green tea or chamomile tea at bedtime. Massage The soles of your feet with milk before sleeping. The soles of your feet with coconut oil, sesame oil or warm mustard oil depending on where you are pitta type or vata type or kapha type(as per Ayurveda) last thing at night. Massage curd on your head. Massage your head at night with a mixture of equal parts of bottle gourd juice and sesame oil.

Have food rich in all vital nutrients proteins, iron, vitamins, minerals, in particular Vitamin B6, folic acid, magnesium, zinc and silica this strengthens the hair and prevents it from falling. A diet consisting of seeds, nuts, grains, green and leafy vegetables and fruits will provide all the necessary nutrients. In addition also take milk, honey, wheat germ, yeast and liver. Drink a juice made of equal parts of alfalfa, carrot and lettuce regularly. Wash your hair regularly a dirty scalp blocks the pores on the head and prevents them from absorbing essential nutrients. Keep your hair and scalp scrupulously clean. After washing your hair, rub the scalp vigorously with your fingers till the head starts tingling. This helps blood circulation in that area and makes hair healthy. Boil coconut oil with small pieces of Indian gooseberry (amla). Cool and apply to hair. Apply the fresh juice of amaranth leaves to hair before washing apart from preventing hair fall, this also makes the hair soft. Boil henna ( mehendi) leaves in mustard oil till the leaves are burnt, strain and massage head regularly with this oil. Apply coconut milk on the scalp and massage well into the hair. Massage the scalp, especially the bald patches with a paste made from lime seeds and pepper corns ground together. This increases blood circulation and helps hair to grow again. Massage a paste of liquorice ground with milk and a pinch of saffron onto the head before going to bed. Wash off in the morning. Refined coconut oil mixed with lime juice prevents hair from falling if applied regularly. Apply the paste of fenugreek seeds ground in water, on the scalp, leave for 40 minutes and then shampoo. Rub the bald patches with raw onion till it turns red. Then apply honey and wash after a while. Beat egg yolks with honey, apply to hair and scalp and wash off after 30 minutes. Rosemary oil mixed with twice its quantity of almond oil and massaged into the hair will keep hair healthy. Olive oil, coconut oil, jojoba oil, grapeseed oil and safflower oil are also believed to be very effective for improving blood circulation and promoting hair growth. Aloe vera gel mixed with honey and applied to the hair cuts down hair fall. Use a mixture of equal quantities of Indian gooseberry juice and lemon juice to wash your hair. Make a decoction with margosa (neem) leaves and wash your hair with this. It reduces hair loss, helps it grow long and kills lice apart from keeping the hair black. Use a homemade shampoo made by mixing 5 tablespoons of curd, 1 tablespoon of lemon juice and 2 tablespoon of raw red gram powder. Leave it on the head for 15-20 minutes then wash off with water. Conditioning for the hair Mix 1 egg, 2 tablespoons honey and a dribble of oil oil. Apply to scalp vigorously. Cover head with a warm towel. Wash off after 30 minutes .

Try and cut down on sources of stress and tension. Get enough sleep and rest. Meditate regularly. Avoid spicy food, alcohol, smoking. Certain foods are triggers for migraine headaches viz chocolates, red wine, cheese, citrus fruits. Avoid these foods. Other trigger foods vary by individuals identify what are your migraine triggers and cut them out of your diet. Include foods rich in niacin such as yeast, whole wheat, green leafy vegetables, tomatoes, nuts, sunflower seeds, liver and fish in your diet they help decrease the incidence and intensity of migraines. Drink chamomile tea regularly to prevent attacks. Drink lots of water at least 2 litres a day. It keeps you hydrated, flushes out toxins and reduces the migraine pain. Eat 10-12 almonds. Drink a mixture of 200 ml spinach juice and 300 ml carrot juice. Consume a mix of 100 ml beet juice, 100 ml cucumber juice and 300 ml carrot juice. Grind fresh grapes into juice and drink. Do not add water. Chew fresh ginger. Taking raw garlic helps or include a lot of garlic in your cooking. Grind lemon crust into a paste and apply on forehead. Crush fresh cabbage leaves, put into a cloth and apply on the forehead for a long time. An ice-cold compress gives immediate relief from severe pain. Wet a towel, squeeze out the water and freeze for about 5 minutes. Then apply it on the forehead; or use an ice-pack. Get a good head and scalp massage. Dip henna flowers in vinegar and apply on forehead for quick relief. Tie a cloth tightly round the head the pressure reduces the pain. Inhale the fumes of rosemary leaves in boiling water. Mix teaspoon mustard powder in 3 teaspoons water and smell it or put into nostrils.

Consuming garlic is very effective in decreasing the hypertension as it prevents thrombosis and deposition of plaque in the arteries. Drinking of lime water 4 to 5 times a day helps in preventing hypertension. Amla (Indian goose berry) is very effective in treating the high blood pressure. Tarbooz (watermelon) is another good remedy for avoiding high blood pressure. Dried seeds of watermelon and khus-khus (cus-cus grass) are to be taken and crushed. It is then consumed empty stomach twice daily with water. Fenugreek seeds are to be taken twice daily empty stomach is a good remedy against hypertension. Leaves of tulsi and neem two in number are to be consumed empty stomach to get relieve from high blood pressure. Toothache Keep a clove between your teeth for some time Clove oil is very beneficial for toothache. You can also apply clove oil if you have some. Keep your teeth clean and massage your gums regularly. You can use salt to massage your teeth. Chew the end of neem or babool twigs (Datun) till they become like brush bristles. Then gently brush your teeth with it. This prevents cavities, heals gum diseases and rejuvenates the tissues of the mouth. Acne and oily skin Make a paste of Multani mitti, chandan powder and a pinch of turmeric. Apply on the face and neck for 15 minutes or till it is completely dry. Wash off with tepid water followed by cold water. Wash your face several times during the day. Drink lots of water during the day. Keep your face clean off dirt and pollution. Dandruff in hair can also lead to acne. Hence, keep your scalp clean and well nourished. Mix grated cucumber with curd and apply on face and neck. Leave for 15 minutes and wash off with cold water. Taking care of your hair Oil your hair atleast 2-3 hours prior every hair wash. Include lots of whole, natural, organic and fresh vegetables in your diet. Dark leafy greens, beets, summer squashes, broccoli, carrots and white daikon radish, and fresh green herbs such as cilantro, mint, curry leaves and basil are good choices for a varied and rich supply of nutrients to your hair. Choose from different types of fruits like berries, citrus fruits, melons and sweet grapes. Vary the fruits you eat from day to day. Soak a handful of raisins in warm water for about 30 minutes and eat them every morning to promote regularity, essential for hair health. Include grated coconut, coconut water and coconut milk in your diet to make your hair healthy. Soaked nuts like almonds and walnuts in the morning are also good for healthy hair. Tackling Dark Circles and Puffiness Cut slices of raw potato about half centimeter thick. Put each slice over your ever eyes, covering the under eye area as well. 1. Trikatu is ideally taken one hour before each meal in a dose of to 1 teaspoon. 2. It can also be taken along with or after a meal. 3. Due to its pungent taste it is better to be consumed with honey in a thick paste. 20
4. If consuming in capsule form it can be taken as 1 capsule twice a day after meals.
