POSITIVE ASPECTS OF INTERNATIONAL LAW

The world had always desired of attaining and maintaining a peaceful society. No man probably liked to live in a world of chaos where states are engaged in armed conflicts with other states. Where there is no amity developed among states. If these struggles continue in progress, time will come where states would be prone to extinction. Man had started all of these, and certainly, he will be the only one who can stop or prevent it. With this idea in mind, the question now should be, how can man stop and or prevent this violence from occurring? Man is a rational being. He has the ability to think, read and write. Man has the knowledge of everything around him as long as it has been already perceived by his senses. As to this knowledge, he can predict such things that may happen in the future based from the conclusion of the ideas in his mind. He arrived at an idea where he himself might become extinct one day due to the cruel actions of his own kind. Through this, man already had a premonition on the things that might happen to him. He has to find a way to defend himself from other human beings. This reason resulted to the creation of states. It was created for the protection of the people against threat from the other. With this goal, the state had created a government. Then the government created laws to give people rights and protection. As time continues to go on, this law broadened. In the past, it only governed the people of the states. Unlike today, we already have laws for states to obey. We call that law as international law. International law is a body of legal rules which apply between sovereign states and such other entities as have been granted international personality. It seeks to regulate and develop amity between states and other entities in the international community. International law, like the municipal law, also govern those bodies under its power. Their goals are almost the same. The municipal law was created for the protection of the people. The international law on the other hand was created for the protection of the states. International law, although some critiques said that it is not a true law, has many positive aspects. Since it is a law, its purpose of existence is for its constituents. International law governs states, gives them rights, and limits their freedom as sovereigns. This law helps states bind up and develop friendship among them. Thus, this prevents the existence of a war between states. International law sought to attain a peaceful world. International law also limits the rights of states. That is to prevent them from intervening in the jurisdiction of other states. A good example of this is when there is a powerful state who would like to intervene with the decisions of another state. International law prevents that former state from this intervention. Imagine if that powerful state intervenes with the decisions of the latter, even though the bigger state has great power, he doesnt have the right to intervene into the other states decisions because this might lead into a war between them. Another good characteristic of international law is that it helps the states recognize, enter into a treaty, and give assistance to each other to easily attain their common goals. Example is the Association of Southeast Asian Nations. This regional organization has been created to easily fulfill the needs of the neighboring states in Southeast Asia. By entering into the treaty, it has been easy for them to make trades of different goods for their needs. If this agreement hasnt been made, maybe these states will find it difficult to achieve high progress in their economic status. These were just some of the positive aspects of international law to the states and the people. States should thank international law for guiding them into the right way of coping up with other sovereign states in the world. The existence of this international law is just the right idea for man to achieve greater progress, and peacefulness of the society. This law is the answer to mans wants of preventing a world violence crisis.
