The Center of American Indian & Minority Health (CAIMH) supports community youth with a goal of addressing Native American health needs and disparities. The Indian Health Pathway (IHP) is a tool to help guide American Indian students throughout their education. Along with developing skills needed for academic success, the IHP encourages community involvement and helps to support American Indian beliefs and identity. Mentors and teachers help guide student development in five main areas:

Use medical case studies to experience how doctors assess patient symptoms and determine a diagnosis using critical thinking and teamwork. Work in groups with University of Minnesota Medical School faculty on fun and interesting science and health related projects that combine problem-based learning with research. Meet other students with similar interests and have the opportunity to establish long-term friendships. Hear presentations from American Indian faculty and healthcare providers. Interact with medical school students who act as mentors and assist students in developing their skills in math, science, reading, and writing. Improve academic skills and develop good study habits for high school and college. Receive a stipend for successful completion of the SuperStars program.
