SUBJECT:
Use of Silicone Base Molybdenum Disulphide and Nickel Base Anti-Seize Compounds issue.
Minute quantities of silicone are commonly used as an anti-foaming additive in approved engine oils. However, any excessive amount of silicone will cause foaming. To prevent inadvertent contamination of the engine or airframe lubrication system, restriction is placed on the use in certain areas of the engine. Synthetic oil base (MIL-L-23699) molybdenum disulphide mixture (EMS 37611) does not offer significant corrosion protection above 250F and is no longer recommended for use. Silicone basf+molybdenum disulphide (Silicone DC-550-R) offers greater corrosion protection up to 450F. Nickel base anti-seize compound (EMS 27627) is to be used in areas with higher temperatures. Under high temperature conditions, molybdenum disulphide can oxidize and cause corrosive attack on low alloy steel parts. The properties
