To allow the deflector of the first-stage turbine nozzle shield to expand independently from the shield dome, thereby increasing the serviceability of the shield assembly. An improved shield assembly with one centrally located braze joint instead of six for attaching the deflector has been released to all Series I and II turbine assemblies. Its dome, however, retains the same six dimples for support and spacing. Part No. 6893676 First-stage Nozzle Shield Deflector has been released to rework existing P/N 6847210 to the new configuration. It also serves as a repair part for the new configuration shield. Following rework, P/N 6847210 First-stage Turbine Nozzle Shield Assemblies are reidentified as l?/N 6890040.

ACCOMPLISHMENT I.
INSTRUCTIONS:
Rework P/N 6847210 First-stage Turbine Nozzle Shield Assembly to P/N 6890040 Shield Assembly. A. Remove the existing deflector brazed to the six dome dimples. Maintain 0.015 in. minimum dimple wall thickness.
EL Braze new P/N 6893676 Deflector to the center of the dome as shown in Figure 1 per AMS 2675 except use high temperature nickel base filler material (item N, 250 DOIL-4), NOTE: C. D, The new deflector has three equally spaced, 0.125 in. diameter holes for the braze applmation.
Inspect the Class II braze joint per item C, 250 DOIL-4. Reidentify reworked shield assemblies as 6890040 per AS478-2Dl (Figure 1).
