We have been considering where we would like to set our psychological thriller.

We immediately decided against an abandoned house or graveyard because they were too stereotypical. We had also said no to a field or forest but we were struggling to think of an appropriate setting that subverted any stereotypes but still worked for a thriller. However, after watching previous work from past students we thought we could possibly utilise a forest and still make it an effective thriller.

Forest
Above are just some general images from Google but it can quite clearly be seen that this would be an appropriate setting of a thriller. Forests typically have very few people walking through them, it is isolated and is the home to various wild life. Forests are also usually fairly quiet and create an eerie atmosphere. We also had some notions about filming at night.

However, from the Google images above there is a clear issue with filming at night, which was lighting. I felt it was a shame because we hadnt seen any previous work that had been filmed at night. It would have been great because we would be able to create a tense and chilling atmosphere and there was potential for so many ambient animal sounds e.g. owls. In the end, we decided a forest at night couldnt be done and a forest during the day was still far too stereotypical. So we looked elsewhere.

Childs Bedroom
When we began developing a storyline, we thought about our split personality character having a child like mind. That idea of them having a child like mentality lead us to look at locations you would associate with a child. So our first thoughts were a childs bedroom because it was against the stereotype, very untypical and places the story in a very strange situation. It will take the audience by surprise and will immediately make our thriller look more original. Although it would have been appropriate and we feel effective, the problem we have is that none of our group members have younger siblings nor do we know anybody with younger siblings. Therefore we didnt have a location but it did get us thinking about alternative locations associated with children.

Playground
We are really passionate about filming in a playground and have some ideas of what we could do both filming and editing wise in this location. We have yet to choose a playground to place our thriller but we have a few locations in mind and we plan on having a look at them to weigh up the pros and cons. A playground will be an excellent location because it isnt stereotypical and playgrounds can offer connotations to our thriller. A dull, colourless playground would connote isolation and creepiness. The only issue we would have to consider is about how often the playground is used. Empty would be better but depending on what playground we use will depend on how often the playground will be populated with kids.
