MCESA IVL Standard

This model is designed to deliver a unique instructional experience to students through the delivery of high quality, highly effective instruction directly to students. THE MCESA IVL Standard model focuses on partnering with the certified classroom teacher to meet the individual needs of each student through differentiated instruction, guided by formative assessments, and supported by a hands-on problem-solving approach. This model is limited to 30 students per 90-minute class. An example of this approach is described on the next page.

Learning Cycle MCESA Instructor Elicit Presents original content or existing content to elicit prior knowledge and preconceptions. Content may include pre-assessments, framing questions, quick-writes, anecdotal notes and record keeping structures. Engage Presents original content or existing content to motivate and capture student interest. Materials designed to engage students with a question, discrepant event, or phenomenon and facilitate connections and stimulate thinking. Content may include facilitating materials use, online simulations, demonstration videos, web pages, journal articles, etc. Leads the students in opportunities to explore ideas, engage with materials, problem-solve, make observations, record and interpret data, generate questions, develop hypotheses. Actively questions students, provides feedback, and collects formative assessment data. Content delivered may include facilitating materials, online simulations, demonstration videos, web pages, journal articles, etc. Facilitates classroom discussion, questions students and supports vocabulary development and data analysis. Guides students toward consistent and coherent generalizations and formation of explanations. Content delivered may include teacher explanations, online simulations, text, and media connections. Facilitates students in applying the newly learned concepts to new contexts. Provides questions for further exploration, assesses transfer of knowledge. Content delivered may include facilitating materials, online simulations, demonstration videos, web pages, journal articles, etc. Facilitates students in assessing their understandings and abilities. Evaluates students understanding of key concepts and skill development. Content may include assessments, rubrics, quick-writes, checklists, project and problem-based learning products, anecdotal notes and record keeping structures. Facilitates students in practicing transfer of knowledge and applying to new inquiry or related concept. Content delivered may include facilitating materials, online simulations, demonstration videos, web pages, journal articles, etc.

Classroom Teacher Administers pre-assessments, ensures students engage in task, and provides student data to MCESA instructor. Ensures students have access to content, monitors and manages materials and equipment, and holds students accountable for engaging in the content.

MCESA IVL 360


This model provides professional learning through instructional modeling and coaching, and is the most comprehensive IVL support MCESA offers. MCESA 360 is designed to deliver a unique instructional experience to students while providing jobembedded professional development to certified classroom teachers. By delivering high quality, highly effective instruction directly to students, classroom teachers are provided modeling and instructional coaching that they can put into immediate practice with constructive feedback. The MCESA instructor, acting as the Lead Instructor, leads multiple classroom teachers working in a Professional Learning Community (PLC), through the Cycle of Instructional Improvement. THE MCESA 360 model focuses on meeting the individual needs of each student and classroom teacher through differentiated instruction individualized coaching. This model is limited to 30 students per 90-minute class. An example of this approach is:

MCESA IVL Direct


This model is provided as a service to schools that are unable to fill classrooms with highly qualified instructors. MCESA Direct delivers instruction to students through a direct, whole-group instruction model, and supports classroom facilitators (substitute teachers, classroom teachers without specific subject-area certification, etc.) with facilitating small group instruction, individualized instruction, and assessment and evaluation activities. THE MCESA Direct model is limited to 90 students per 60-90 minute class.
