ORDER OF WORSHIP * Please stand if you are able Bold print denotes congregational response "No matter who

you are or where you are on life's journey, you are welcome here." * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * March 3, 2013 Third Sunday in Lent PRELUDE THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: What is faith? Faith is being grasped by the power of love. Faith is recognizing that what makes God is infinite mercy, not finite control; not power, but love unending. Faith is recognizing that ifJesus became like us, it was so that we might become more like him.
- William Sloan Coffin

WELCOME SHARING OF THE PEACE Liturgist The love of God is vaster than all human loves. The peace of God surpasses all human understanding. Let us greet one another with a sign of this peace. May the peace of Christ be with you. All: And also with you. (Share the sign of peace with each other.) INTROIT: Spirit of the Living God! Spirit of the living God, fall afresh on me; Spirit of the living God, fall afresh on me; Melt me, mold me, fill me, use me. Spirit of the living God, fall afresh on me. Spirit of the living God, move among us now. Make us one in heart and mind, make us one in love: Humble, caring, selfless, sharing. Spirit of the living God, fill our lives with love.

CALL TO WORSHIP Liturgist: We believe Gods steadfast love is better than life, so we will bless God as long as we live. People: Sometimes we also doubt Gods love. We doubt that God will really provide when it matters. Liturgist: But this is what matters today: God has said, Come all who are thirsty, come to the water, and you that have no money, come, buy and eat All of us, no matter who we are or where we are in lifes journey. People: With faith, bold and timid, let us worship God! * HYMN: High in the Heavens, Eternal God #82 Pilgrim

PRAYER OF CONFESSION (in unison). All: O God, whose mercy is everlasting, hear our confession. We revel in self-glory; we delight in vain pursuits; we worship idols of our own making. We are constantly putting you to the test. Yet you have promised that you will never test us beyond our endurance. Forgive us when we take for granted your loving nature. Restore us to communion with you; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. WORDS OF ASSURANCE: Liturgist: Turn back to God, who is merciful. Come back to God, who is lavish with forgiveness. Know that God, whose ways are far above our ways, grants us pardon and everlasting life. People: Thanks be to God, through our Lord Jesus Christ. * HYMN Draw Thou My Soul, O Christ #318 Pilgrim Pew Bible page 1119
