The alumni of our department continue to make significant contributions through their work, and have earned laurels for themselves as well as the organizations they work for. Many are now engaged as employees or consultants with some of the globally most reputed organizations located in different continents. I am a proud alumnus of the DoMS, IIT Madras, from the batch of 2005-2007. I am a staunch believer that the crucial decisions we take at the cross roads of our student life determine how the rest of our professional career pans out. Selecting the right B-school to invest two precious years is one such critical decision and needless to say it gets all the more complicated if you have multiple schools to choose from! Thankfully for me, I was diligent and knew better to look beyond the superficial gloss of incredulous Bschool rankings, fake/inaccurate placement figures and instead concentrate on the four fundamental and substantive parameters that mattered the most i.e. faculty (in your area of specialization), industryacademia interaction, case study based methodology and last but not the least a tight knit community of

I opted for DoMS, IIT Madras because it offered all the essential principal skills/tools, which are necessary to turn raw talent into a well-rounded business professional willing to seize the moment and hit the ground running. The faculty at DoMS was awe inspiring and consistently ensured that we were pushed beyond our comfort zone. What really struck me was the phenomenal wealth of industry experience each one of the faculty members brought to the classroom. This accompanied with regular interaction with industry leaders through sessions like CEO Connect etc went a long way in making sure we were exposed to the real world business problems and challenges. The teaching methodology was never didactic and almost always ensured excellent class participation which encouraged diverse thoughts, opinions and more importantly lateral thinking. Looking back now, I would certainly consider the two grueling, intense, stimulating and exciting years at DoMS, IIT Madras as the best investment of my time. Over the last Six years, I have successfully navigated through the corporate world taking up numerous complex and challenging roles in global firms by leveraging the skills/education that I had imbibed during my days at DoMS, IIT Madras and I am forever indebted to my alma mater and my mentors for that.

For me , the DOMS, IIT Madras experience centered around UNLEARNING all that i had learnt before in my career as a Software Professional and think from a clean slate. This was catalyzed by these fascinating dialogues / experiences that i had interacting with some of the most brilliant professors, students across varied and beautiful milieus at DOMS, IIT Madras. Now as a Construction Consultant (from "clicks to bricks"!) i am put in a different situation every two months - whether it is to turn around a power plant construction project vis-a-vis time overruns or optimize construction costs for a mega township project. The ability to "clean sheet your mind" and come up with new "unthought" ideas has been instilled in me by DoMS. Curriculum, Subjects all seem secondary in comparison to this wonderful experience of being in an environment that helps uncondition your mind and think differently.

Chennai is located on the eastern coastal plains overlooking the Bay of Bengal is famous for having one of the largest beaches around the world. Known to be deeply rooted to its cultural ethos, love and passion for its native language, music and dance, Chennai is also a major auto hub, often called the Detroit of India. With a broad industrial base; being India's second largest exporter of IT and BPO services; with more than 80 engineering colleges; being the epicentre of Carnatic music and other forms of arts, Chennai continues to grow exponentially, but still retains its culture heritage. Singara Chennai as it is called by the ones who love it, is a city without any prejudices and falling in love with it is inevitable. Chennai is famous for its great beaches, public transport, beach resorts, sea food, inexpensive movie tickets (one can watch a movie for 10 bucks!!!), weekend trekking getaways, closeness to Pondicherry, T-Nagar shopping and many more. The climate is known to be harsh during summer months which give all the more reason to spend time on the exotic beaches.
