James 5:13-18

Portraits From Sandie

Confess your trespasses to one another,

and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much. James 5:16 A friend of mine has been a woman of prayer as long as I have known her. We first met 27 years ago when our boys were small. The 2 boys became fast friends. One evening Tom went across the street to bring Matthew home for dinner. When he got home he was alone. I asked, Wheres Matt? Toms reply wasnt quite what I expected. He didnt get Matt because he never knocked on her front door. When he got there he saw Linda, through the small panes of glass in her front door, prostrate on her face in prayer, crying out to the Lord for the needs of her family. He didnt want to disturb her, but this incident had a greater impact on me. It was at that moment that I knew where I was going to go when I needed prayer.

prayer meeting at my house with about 6 women. We saw many victories and answered prayers as we lifted up our needs to the Lord. That was a special time that I am eternally grateful for. I dont see her much anymore but when I do, the first thing we do is pray. She will always ask me to pray for her and her family and I might add I take great joy in doing so. There is something so humble about opening up to another person and sharing your heartfelt needs. I know this pleases the heart of God and, as James 5:16 tells us, it avails much. Next time a friend needs encouragement instead of saying Ill pray for you, say Let me pray for you. Then do it right then and there! The Lord will use you to show His love and support through your prayers and actions.

PRAYER

Titus 2
Hannahs Prayer: It says in 1 Samuel, 1:10-11, And
she was in bitterness of soul, and prayed to the LORD and wept in anguish. Then she made a vow and said, O LORD of hosts, if You will indeed look on the affliction of Your maidservant and remember me, and not forget Your maidservant, but will give Your maidservant a male child, then I will give him to the LORD all the days of his life, and no razor shall come upon his head. As a mother, I understand and continue to learn the depth of Hannahs prayer from my own inability to have babies; the loss from miscarriages and the miracle and blessings of children, both natural birth and from remarriage. I also have learned to understand the extent of what it means to dedicate and train up your children in the ways of the Lord. Someone once said, When your child becomes an adult then your job as a mother is finished. No longer do you offer your child wisdom. I disagree, a mother never stops praying for her child, even when they are grown.

Hannahs Prayer
By Kelly Gardner

And she said, O my lord! As your soul lives, my lord, I am the woman who stood by you here, praying to the LORD. For this child I prayed, and the LORD has granted me my petition which I asked of Him. Therefore I also have lent him to the LORD; as long as he lives he shall be lent to the LORD. So they worshiped the LORD there. And Hannah prayed and said: My heart rejoices in the LORD; My horn is exalted in the LORD. I smile at my enemies, Because I rejoice in Your salvation. No one is holy like the LORD, For there is none besides You, Nor is there any rock like our God. (1 Samuel 1:26-2:2 )

Your children , natural, adopted or by marriage are blessings not burdens. As a mama, its about loving Have you ever wondered what baby dedication Jesus with all your heart, with all your mind and with means and why it is done? It isnt just a ceremony for all your soul. photo opportunities and rituals. The true meaning of baby dedication is giving back to the Lord what He For this child I prayed is not a one time act! It is has already given to you. Like Hannah, you are a lifetime of prayer! standing before the Lord and the church body, promising to, Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he shall not depart from it. Proverbs 22:6 To train up a child means more than the act of dedication; it is teaching your child Gods Word, how to pray, taking them to church and most importantly, daily living in love and obedience to the Word of God. Does the promise of Proverbs 22:6 guarantee perfect children who make perfect choices? No. But I do believe the promise of, And when they are old they will not depart from it. means that the seeds of faith are planted deep in the heart of your child.

For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him, should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:16

Devotional
My House Shall Be Called A House of Prayer
Devotional by DiAnn Wolfe I want to draw your attention to verse 17 of Mark 11, Then He taught, saying to them, is it not written, My house shall be called a house of prayer for all nations? But you have made it a den of thieves. This statement had so angered the religious that scripture says they sought how they might destroy Him; for they feared Him, because all the people were astonished at His teaching. fellowship, in the breaking of bread and in prayers. Acts 2:42. Think about it, how did the New Testament church begin? They gathered together at Pentecost in prayer, in one accord. What precedes any mighty move of the Holy Spirit in power? Prayer. And these things continue to be the way God has chosen the church to grow.

Jesus doesnt say my house should be a house of teachings, or a house of serving or a house of fellowshipping, but a house of prayer. None of these are exclusive, but all are necessary for growth. Our church, Gods house, should be full of prayer. We need to be brothers and sisters in the Lord praying and interceding together for the needs and Jesus utters these words addressing the corruption concerns of the body and others. that had invaded the temple. PRAYERS ABLAZE FOR THE LORD
By Mary Jane Robinette
Their are times youll be driving down the road and you hear sirens coming from the distance. You begin to get cautious because you know the law commands that you must pull over and be still while the fire apparatus makes their way to their destination. You might even be able to look up and see the bellowing smoke rising to the sky from the hot burning flames. A sense of yearning to pray creeps into your heart. You urgently whisper words in fervent prayer asking the Lord to help this situation and keep everyone from harms way. God hears your heart attitude of prayer . . . it reaches up from the very essence of your soul. I used this scenario to show you how your fervent prayer was ablaze reaching out to the Lord. Fervent means glowing hot; intense heat; extremely passionate enthusiasm. Our daily prayer life should be just like that, prayers on fire to the Lord. Our prayers should burn as hot coals cleansing our hearts and lips from all our unrighteous ways. Praying with a passionate and repenting heart is prayer that will be effectively received by our Heavenly Father. We read in 1John 1:9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. KJV wants for us in our daily life. We arent always faithful in the things that God expects from us every day. James tells us that the burden of guilt from the faults we carry need to be shared and agreed with to one another. We know when our walk with the Lord is being threatened by the enemy. There are days when we become weak in the time we spend in prayer with our Lord. We can have a heart that has forgiven someone but fails to forget. We can have a heart that has lost its joy in our ministry and we need to seek prayer to return to our delight in serving the Lord. These are the times that we need to communicate our faults to one another and together seek the Lord in fervent prayer. Spiritual healing is the result of a heart that breaks before the Lord. It is not how we pray, where we pray, the words we use when we pray, it is the heart attitude that God listens to. James 5:16 Confess your faults to one another, and pray for one another, that ye may be healed. The effectual, fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. KJV None of us are free from faults. The testing we face each day can be overwhelming. We fall short in some areas on a daily basis. We know that our sins should only be confessed to God. However it is good to reach out to our prayer partners, to someone we know who will listen and pray with us, but keep our confidence. We need to seek out a sister-in-Christ who listens in Christs love, and prays for you with a humble heart that is on fire for the Lord. It is when we share and pray together that we are humbled to not want to displease God again. The prayers of a righteous heart should be like molten hot lava surrounding the throne of God. awake with prayer ready to ignite in our heart. We need to pray to God for guidance to get through the day according to the plans He has for us, not what we feel we need to do. No matter what we are doing or where we are, there is always a moment of time that we can reach out to the Lord in prayer. We dont need eloquence in our words. We dont need to pray long prayers. One short prayer, forgive me Lord, prayed with a humble and broken heart, reaches out and blesses the Lord. Surrendering to Gods will is a heart broken. The women of Calvary Chapel should long to have a better prayer life. We all need to have a passionate and fervent heart for prayer. We have opportunities here at Calvary Chapel to come to pray three times a week. Moms in Prayer, Mondays at noon. Women Prayer Meetings, Wednesday evening at 6:00 PM and Thursday mornings at 10:00 AM. Dedicated hearts are needed to reach out to the Lord in intercessory prayer. Encourage each other to come out to pray. A heart that is on fire for prayer is a heart of a righteous person whose prayers will avail much. Kay Smith, wife to Pastor Chuck Smith, tells us in her book called The Privilege, Prayer is the only way you can truly live the life that Christ wants you to live. For that reason alone, you should long to become a woman of prayer. She also shares, Oh the immeasurable power of prayerhow little we realize the gift weve been given. If we could only see with spiritual eyes what God does with our prayers, we would probably spend the rest of our days on our knees.

We also want to reach out to God in prayer and let Him know that we come Our prayer time should be the most with an agreeing heart to what He important focus of our day. We should
