What is Yin Yoga?


Yin Yoga is a practice that emphasizes passive stretching without use of muscular contractions. Each pose is held about 3 to 5 minutes to encourage stretch or traction to move beyond the muscles into the deeper layers of connective tissues. As we maintain stillness in each poses we have an opportunity to turn our awareness inwards, calming our mind to experience a keen sense of the here and the now. Specially designed series work deeply into meridians or energy lines to bring about an improved flow of chi in our bodies to enhance our overall well-being. It is a practice suitable to all levels, and especially suitable for those looking to release stress and increase flexibility. As opposed to a dynamic practice such as Ashtanga, Vinyasa, Power etc., Yin is the complete opposite. The goal of the practice is to target the joints by lengthening deep fascia surrounding them. As such, muscular relaxation will effect changes in deep tissues by creating more space in between the bones. This is a safe way of cultivating more flexibility in the body.

Yammie has been practicing Yoga since 1998 and she is now a certified Yin yoga teacher and practitioner. Currently residing in Malaysia, Yammie travels within and outside the country every year to pursue higher qualification in the area of Yin Yoga. Being a practitioner, she has a great passion in teaching yoga as she believes Yoga can bring healing in all layers of ones being. She learnt Yin Yoga from Victor Chng, the founder of Yin Yoga in Asia and is given the opportunity by her guru to be the event organizer for Yin Yoga training in Malaysia. She is currently conducting Yin Yoga classes not only at home basis, but also extended to workplaces and studios in Malaysia.
