ECLIPSE
The moon revolves around the earth and the earth revolves around the sun. At the certain , the earth , the moon and the sun are in a straight line. When sunlight is blocked by the earth or the moon ( opaque), a shadow will perform. Thus an eclipse in formed.

1. An eclipse occurs because of the property of light : i. Lights travels in a straight line. ii. Light cannot pass through the opaque object. 2. There are two types of eclipes : i. The eclipse of the moon ( lunar eclipse) ii. The eclipse of the sun (solar eclipse )

ECLIPSE OF THE MOON


( LUNAR ECLIPSE)

a. The earth is between the sun and the moon b. The earth, the moon and the sun are position in a straight line. c. The earth positions block the sunlight from reaching the moon. d. The earth shadow is formed on the moons surface and causes an eclipse of the moon. e. The eclipse of the moon can last more than one hour. It can be observed at night.It only occur during the full moon phase which is 15 th day.

a. The moon block the sunlight from reaching the earth. b. The moon shadow is formed on the earth surface. c. During the eclipse of the sun we can see that some portions of the suns surface are covered by the moon.

e. During the total eclipse of the sun , the day will turn dark for a while. We can see a ring of light around the moon from the earth. This is the part of the sun that moon has not covered. Our eyes can be easily damage if we look directly at it.

Scenario on Earth during a solar eclipse


During the total eclipse, the sky become dark although it is day time The star may be visible in the sky. The temperature of the surrounding falls slightly. Many animals behave strangely. Birds stop singing. Butterflies stop fluttering. Swarms of bees returns to their hives. The whole environment appears to be dark and eerie. Only certain parts of the earth will experience a total solar eclipse ( umbra) while other parts of the earth will experience a partial solar eclipse (penumbra).
