A View of Grade Two

Equipping students to impact the world for Christ Do Hard Things

March 4, 2013

Dear Parents and students, Thank you to all the parents who participated in the Parent survey. I have introduced the class to Edmodo. This is a secure educational site. Your child has created their own username and password. I strongly urged them to use the IXL username and password, but some chose another. If your child forgets, I can reset the password and have access to the usernames. I will be sending information on how you can have access to your childs work. I am hoping to use this for homework and various assignments. I will be gone on this Friday to attend a technology conference at YIS in Yokohama. I appreciate Mrs. Paul coming in to work with the 2nd graders. Language arts - We will be reading several versions of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. Students will then be working on producing their own Goldilocks story. In honor of Dr. Seusss birthday on March 2nd, we will be reading a poem by him. The students have worked on creating their own Green Eggs and Ham book which should be on the blog later in the week. We will do our regular Daily Five and add the word contraction to the academic vocabulary books. Bible - Our final parable is the Ten Talents (Matthew 25:14-30.) The students will be working in groups in class to retell one of the parables. They will also need to explain the meaning of the parable. These will be filmed and posted on the blog for everyone to see. You can help your child by discussing the

parable they are sharing. A rubric and explanation is attached. There is no new Bible memory verse for this week. Students will need an empty 10 egg carton or small box(about 15 x 10 x 10 cm) next week. I will show the students some examples this week. Mathematics - World Math Day is finally here! Literacy Day is the 5th, Math Day the 6th and Science Day the 7th. The students will have some time in school, but may want to complete the 50 games at home. For Math and Literacy they may do 10 games at each of the 5 levels on the day of competition. We will also begin looking at division. What is division? How is it related to multiplication? To subtraction? Why do I need to be able to divide?
