C What is meant by a steering gear mechanism? Why is it necessary? Why are steering gear mechanisms seen in four-wheelers and not in two or three-wheelers? Explain. OR A Draw a neat sketch and explain working of a Pantograph, Prove that the mechanism used for Pantograph satisfies the required condition. B What do you understand by steering gears? State the condition under which the pure rolling motion of wheel can be obtained when the vehicle take a turn.

A Find velocity of D and angular velocity of link AB, for the mechanism shown in Fig. Various dimensions are: OA = 200 mm, AB = 1500 mm, BC = 700 mm, CD = 500 mm, BE = 500 mm. Assume crank OA rotates uniformly at 150 rpm clockwise.

What is Kutzbach Criterion? Explain

OR A Fig. shows a toggle mechanism. The lengths of links are: OA = 100 mm, AB = 250 mm, BC = 300 mm, BD = 350 mm. The crank OA rotates at a Speed of 180 rpm in clockwise direction. Draw velocity diagram using velocity image principle. Determine : i) Velocity of slider D ii) Angular velocity of link BD.

C Define terms machine and Mechanism. How do they differ? OR A Fig shows the mechanism of a radial valve gear. The crank OA turns uniformly at 200 rpm and is pined at A to rod AB. The point C in the rod is guided in the circular path with D as a centre and DC as a radius. The dimensions of various links are: OA = 150 mm, AB = 550 mm, AC = 450 mm, DC = 500 mm, BE = 350 mm. Determine the velocity of slider E.
