GRTU : Remote Terminal Unit for

Electrical Cubicles
GRTU is a compact Remote Terminal Unit (RTU) used to optimise the quality and the service in the electricity Networks.

GRTU Product Description

The automatisation and the remote control of the electrical MV cubicles optimise the quality and the service in the electricity Networks. Dedicated to be installed in the electrical network/customer cubicles, the GRTU unit realizes the integration of the essential functionalities needed for distant control and commands. The GRTU is a modular, compact and off-theshelf unit. It ensures the compatibility and the interoperability with the existing DMS supervisory station, e.g. LYNX (*1) for management and full control according to the industrial communication standards.

Modularity of the unit: TCOM/SURVEY Module n X 2K Modules for control of up to 8 cells) Optional Modules for analog measurements ISDN, Wireless, PSTN, IP Transmissions On-site LON compatibility Internal Energy workshop n X 2K Expansion shelf full EMC certified

Functional description and modularity

TCOM/SURVEY MODULE:
The TCOM/SURVEY Module features 2 main functions:

2K MODULE :
Control of The -2K Module has the following features: the Local 2KLEDs frontSupervision and intelligent control: control of two "K" switch cells. The presindicators ence of 8the and of inputs signals and of 4 output commands lper cell ensures a permainterna nenta r n i n gof all the signals and of the w control associated fault current detector (FCD). buzzer. The GRTU base cabinet can host up to two 2K modules for control of 1 to 4 switch cells. (up to 8 cells with the expansion cabinet).

MEASUREMENT MODULE: Analog measurements

The insertion of this optional module brings a permanent vision on the analog electrical measurements (currents, voltage and T) in the cubicles. Two measurement modules can be installed in the base GRTU for control of up to 16 analog values. (up to 32 with the expansion cabinet). These input values are automatically time stamped by the GRTU, along with average calculations (on a 60 sec to 24 hours time basis). Reports to the main supervisory station can be instantaneous (alarm mode) or periodical. The measures are recorded and stored by the GRTU with a capacity up to 1024 storage values.

TCOM: This function consists in the control (routing and setting) of the exchanged data between the local Unit and the main supervisory station for management of remote controls, remote statuses, and remote measurements. The external communications can be PSTN, ISDN, GSM, Radio UHF or other ones. the remote monitoring of the local signals: Supervision of 8 general purpose cubicle signals. Survey and automatic periodical test of the internal energy workshop. Control of the general behaviour of the Unit (Survey during processes).

SURVEY: ensures the supervision and

MOD1K MODULE :
The MOD1K module must be installed, one per K switch, for the realization of the hardware and power interfacing between the 2K module and the K switch cell to be controlled. The MOD1K module also features a set of LEDs indicators for local status information.

CONNECTION AREA

The GRTU wall cabinet is made of galvanized painted steel (protected against corrosion) and has compact dimensions (750X440X270mm). The connectors area enables an immediate installation on precabled site

Modularity: Integral card rack for installation of pluggable modules (TCOM/SURVEY module, 2K module, MOD1K module, communication module, analog measurements module). Extensions: The control capacity of the GRTU can be extended until 8 cells per addition of 1 expansion cabinet. This cabinet can host the 2K modules and the MOD1K modules necessary to the control up to 4 additional cells. A terminal cable lets the extension box to be connected to the power and signal bus of the base GRTU.

Internal Energy workshop: Thanks to the internal energy workshop included in the base cabinet, the GRTU has an operating autonomy of 24 hours. The energy workshop provides the backup power necessary to the switchgear motorisation, to the fault current detectors, and to the GRTU (electronic modules and communication). The internal energy workshop also supplies uninterruptible 48V and 24VDC, for system and auxiliary local use. It is fitted with microprocessor for monitoring of the voltages and for optimization of the internal battery life (automatic periodical tests) with alarming.

Ease of Installation and Upgrade

5K 8K
Maintenance and tests are facilitated by direct use of laptop PC ( with security password). Immediate access for local tests, installation and upgrades. The use of integrated connectors enables the replacement of modules without the necessity of unwiring. The connector area shown on the above picture can be equipped with custom connectors (e.g. HA10) on request.
