Attendance is not mandatory; however, class participation is an important part of the learning experience. Besides my class is fun. All class sessions begin with a question and answer period on the homework and previous material. Establishing a class conversation of questions and answers is the centerpiece of my style of teaching. Homework is not collected but tests and quizzes are based on homework and similar problems. The way to learn mathematics is to work problems and ask questions about things you dont understand. The calendar of classes is only approximate. Some topics will vary in time spent on them and the specific dates may slip. It is a useful guide for planning. Class conduct is based on being respectful to everyone. I can be contacted as follows: rod.millar@utah.edu Grading Policies Your grade will be based on midterms (3) and a Final Exam. If there are graded quizzes then these scores will be added to your exam scores in calculating your grade. We will fit in quizzes as often as we can. Extra credit will be offered. Quiz: 10 points. Midterms 100 points (3) 300 Final: 200 points 200 500 points possible on exams Quizzes will be added to this total as required. Final Exam Policy: If your final exam score (percent) is your highest score then that will be your course grade as well. Percent Grading Scale: I will use the following percent grading scale in determining your grade. Your grade is calculated as a percentage of the total possible points. 91-100 A 89-90 A 86-88 B + 81-85 B 79-80 B 76-78 C + 71-75 C 69-70 C66-68 D + 61-35 D 59-60 D < 59 E Makeup Policy: I recognize that most of the students in my night classes do so because you have day jobs. Therefore, I allow students to make up missed exams and quizzes. A student must notify me of impending absences before or as soon as possible while away. Makeup exams and quizzes will be on file at the front desk of the Sandy Campus and can be taken during normal business hours. All special needs requests will be honored in accordance with University Policies.
