1. Join the community of users MAGEIA because; 1. The Mageia project is a lively community (http://www.mageia.org/en/about/codeof-conduct/) , open to everyone, seeking to be nice to newcomers and current members, where everyone feels comfortable and accepted, whatever the amount and type of his/her contributions are. 2. is the best way to learn to use Mageia and enjoy all its features. 3. is the best way to help and seek help for questions with other users (community support) in forums, mailing lists, IRC, bugzilla-mageia, wiki, blog, in English or other languages. 4. The Mageia (http://www.mageia.org/en/) is the french nonprot organization, that organizes the development and distribution of Mageia, and oers, along with nine more communities (https://forums.mageia.org/en/viewforum.php?f=20) of users of other languages, several tools for users to discuss collectively and publicly, on the Internet, on diverse issues related to the use of Mageia. 2. The participation of everyone is important, therefore: 1. Mageia is free software, so the more people using, testing, and collaborate, the better their development. 2. free software can be used without restriction, including free, but also has high costs for development and updating. Therefore, it is the model of "collaborative development" that allows for the reduction of development costs and accelerated evolution of free software. 3. the free software is for everyone to use, and is legally protected by the GNU GPL, and therefore has been consolidating since it was created 28 years ago by Richard Stallman and has for 20 years, Linux as its core (see also here).

CPU Architecture 1. 32 bits 2. 64 bits 1. Make sure if your processor is 32bit or 64bit: 1. At graphic-mode, access the Mageia Control Center-MCC, the "Hardware" tab, the "View and Congure Hardware". and the list of hardware, click on "CPU" and check on "Extras Signs" if ther is the ag ml . See the meaning of the ag here (http://blog.incase.de/index.php/cpu-feature-ags-and-theirmeanings/) 2. See the manufacturer's website via the "model name" processor, whether it is 32bit or 64bit. 3. Check through the text-mode, accessing a terminal as root and typing the command grep -m 1 ags /proc/cpuinfo, and see if has the ag lm (Long Mode. - 64bit Extensions, AMDs AMD64 or Intels EM64T). 4. Why I need learn this? Because the 64 bit processor runs programs 32 bit or 64 bit, including operating systems 32 or 64 bits. The 32 bit processor only runs programs and operating system 32 bit. Therefore, when in doubt, choose the 32 bit that will run in both, in 32 bit and 64 bit processor CPU. 2. Consolidated options 1. Novice user - LiveCD, KDE, 32 bit or 64 bits; 2. Novice user - LiveCD, GNOME, 32 bit or 64 bit; 3. Intermediate users - DVD, KDE-GNOME-LXDE, 32 bit or 64 bit; 4. Advanced users - CD Dual arch, LXDE, 32 bit-64 bits. 2. How downlod? (see here (http://www.mageia.org/en/downloads/) ) 1. direct downolad 2. torrent 3. Check the integrity of the downloaded le (imagem ISO, see here: md5sum or sha1sum) 4. Burn the downloaded ISO Image le 1. in CD, DVD (eg. with K3b, Brasero, Xfburn) 2. in pendrive (see tips here) 5. Files ready to install: 1. LiveCD KDE 2. LiveCD GNOME 3. DVD (KDE, Gnome e Lxde) 4. 1. Why testing before you install? 1. may be useful to know the usability and general aspects of the distro, and; ; 2. to verify the compatibility of Mageia with the machine's hardware (especially video card, audio and network / wiriless). 1. Obs: the proper functioning of some hardware may require specic congurations and/or installing additional software packages, so the suggestion is to discuss the questions that arise in the forums, mailing lists, IRC, etc. 2. How? 1. running the Mageia LiveCD on a computer without installing:

1.

1. installing a Mageia DVD or Mageia liveCD on a virtual machine like Virtualbox in any other OS.
