Function Statement / Summary of Duties: The Program Coordinator for Academic Initiatives assists with overall implementation of residential learning and campus engagement initiatives; provides leadership to targeted learning communities; participates in academic initiatives team and leadership of Residence Life academic learning programs, administrative processes, staff selection, program design and implementation of living learning educational experiences; forms positive liaison relationships with a variety of university faculty and staff on behalf of students and/or staff; serves on or chairs committees; budget and expenditure responsibility associated with maintenance and continual improvement of learning communities; manages various co-curricular administrative tasks including residence hall tutoring, learning community publications and websites, university-wide collaboration events and student educational travel experiences; serves as the departmental liaison with various offices. Essential Duties: 25%: Manages and implements strategic vision of residential learning communities in collaboration with Hall Directors and academic partners; supports the development of ongoing interventions and initiatives designed to enhance the academic achievement of students in the residence halls; serves as a budget resource to Hall Directors as it relates to learning community purchases; provides guidance and resources for event planning related to learning community programming. 20%: Administers tasks and responsibilities related to the implementation of the campus-wide sophomore initiatives, first-year programs, and residential curriculum. Plans logistical details for annual events related to sophomore and academic initiatives, such as faculty training and recognition events. 20% Coordinates marketing and recruitment for residential learning communities and academic tutoring in the residence halls; creates and maintains websites, brochures, and newsletters highlighting residential learning communities and academic initiatives; Assists in coordination of Residence Life publications and recruitment efforts for both residential learning experiences and the university; represents Residence Life at recruitment and outreach events across campus. 20% Represents Residence Life on university committees coordinating academic support services for students. Collaborates with partners, including Honors & Scholars staff, academic advisors, staff affiliated with academic support services and the Writing Center; manages various educational and academic support initiatives that integrate outside the classroom learning and/or retention efforts; collaborates with campus partners to create experiential opportunities, such as community service and travel experiences, for University Housing residents. 10%: Provides on-going training and leadership to full-time professional, graduate staff, and student staff in the development of residential learning communities; participates in the selection and training of paraprofessional staff; participates in annual recruitment and selection of Residence Life staff as needed. 5%: Assists with the development of appropriate assessment and evaluation processes. Represents the department in various on and off-campus meetings and conferences to share results of assessment. This position will be supervised by the Assistant Director for Academic Initiatives and will require some week night and weekend hours. Specific Content Knowledge/Skills: Required: Masters degree or equivalent in Student Personnel Administration or a related field and two years post-graduate experience, or equivalent education and experience; considerable work experience in residence halls. Desired: live-in Hall Director experience with residential learning community development and/or academic support programs
