From the author:

This book is intended to provide a conclusive guide to the CCIE VOICE candidate, who
is in the process of preparing to the LAB, and has already passed the theoretical exam.

The platform for the tasks provided here are the voice racks of ccbootcamp and it will be
the easier way to use this book. One can also use it on a home LAB with some
modifications.

The book can give you tips and knowledge which will definitely improve your chances to
pass the LAB, please keep notes of things you know and things you should learn more
about.

If you run into commands that you dont know what they do, search for them on CCO
and make sure you know how and where to use them.

We also strongly recommend going into Ciscos (www.cisco.com/go/ccie) web site and
following the recommended study tips and material.

We will provide support for this book at our forums on www.voiceie.com, please use it to
contact us if needed.

The CCIE certification is hard and sometimes disappointing in regard to successful

results, dont give up if you experience difficulties, remember that you are studying to
know and the certification is something that will lead you to upgrade your knowledge so
the failure is something to learn from.

It is also recommended to attend a boot camp, you can gain benefit from it even if you
think you know enough. The frontal study and direct feedback from a trained teacher can
boost you up a lot. Also sharing study tips with peers will help you to understand your
level and perhaps teach you some time saving tricks.

Good Luck,
Avner Izhar, CCIE VOICE #15999

General info:
Pre config:
The pre config files for the voice racks of ccbootcamp can be downloaded from
http://www.ccbootcamp.com/download/Files-For-NLIs-CCIE-Voice-Lab-Workbook.

They contain basic configuration for networking and routing things, which will be
configured for you after loading those files to the routers.

You are expected to verify the configured things in them and might run into problems
which you should know how to solve.

Verifying equipment state and readiness:

It is recommended to verify that you have the correct versions loaded on all devices, the
current published versions are:

All routers use IOS version 12.4 Main Train

Catalyst 6503 series switches use Switch OS version 7.6(X)
Catalyst 3550 series switches use IOS version 12.1EA
CCM version 4.1(3) with latest SR
Unity version 4.0(5)
CRS version 4.0(1)

Also verify that on BR2 you have the CME files, which include phone loads and GUI
files.

Recommended hardware:
The currently published hardware is:

MCS 7835 Call Manager/CRS Servers

MCS 7835 Unity Server
Catalyst 6503
3725 Routers (WAN, Gatekeeper, Gateway, PSTN Emulation)
Cisco Unity Express
2651XM H.323 Gateway
VG248 Analog Phone Gateway
ATA186 Analog Telephone Adapters
Catalyst 3550 with inline power
IP Phones
Analog Phones
FAX

We also presume that one of the remote sites will contain NM-16ESW, since there are
three sites with only two switches (6503 and 3550).

Tips for the initial setup:

Define under the console (line con 0) the command no exec-timeout in order to
avoid inactivity logout.
Define some useful shortcuts that may save precious time under aliases, samples
would be: show call active voice brief, show gatekeeper call status and other
commands you use often.

Cisco's Non-Disclosure Agreement:

This book was written in high respect to the CCIE certification and resists any use of it in
order to violate Cisco's Non-Disclosure Agreement. We will not answer questions
regarding things that relate to actual LAB exam and will not take part in activities that
stand against the CCIE NDA.

For complete NDA specification, please use the following URL:

For 3550 IOS, use the following steps:

For the NM-ESW define the port as trunk port (switchport mode trunk), the rest
would be the same

Non tagging devices, such as servers (call manager and unity) ATA, VG248 and
6608 ports, should be set as access vlan voice with no voice vlan or auxiliary
config.

Dont forget to verify 802.1Q trunk between the switch and the router for inter vlan
routing.

d. Create scope for the requested ip addresses by right clicking on the
server, then selecting new scope and following the wizard.
Make sure you get the following results after you finish the wizard.

e. Make sure we have dhcp relay enabled from the phones vlan to the dhcp
server.

interface FastEthernet0/0.110
description HQ Voice Vlan 110
encapsulation dot1Q 110
ip address 10.110.0.1 255.255.255.0
ip helper-address 10.1.200.21
no snmp trap link-status

f.

Finally, verify that ip addresses are assigned to devices:

Chapter 1 Basic Campus Design

TIP: Learn how to differentiate phone registration status without touching

the phones buttons, you will notice that the phones display configuring
vlan and reset continually before acquiring its ip address. After they will
display messages like configuring tftp and will try to register to the call
manager server. This will save you precious time during the lab.

4. Use the same procedure for BR1 site, as described for HQ site.
5. Configure the IOS dhcp services according to the following commands:

TIP: Make sure you first exclude the address and only then declare the pool;
otherwise the phones will acquire addresses from the pool and will keep them until
you would clear the binding.

6. First set the time zone for HQ router, then configure it as NTP source and
finally verify:
HQ_Rtr(config)#clock timezone utc -8
HQ_Rtr(config)#ntp master

Then go into BR1 and point it to HQ, after setting the time zone for New York:
BR1(config)#clock timezone utc -4
BR1(config)#ntp server 10.10.32.1

Do the same for BR2 router, you can find time zone settings in windows
clock or on the call manager time settings.

TIP: you should get familiar with time synchronization options in CallManager and
Unity, this options are explained on CCO, at:

Troubleshooting Tips:

Beware of typing errors; they are the number one cause of problems. Work
accurate and have things configured correctly from the first attempt.

Microsoft DHCP can be investigated by using network monitor (administrative

tools > network monitor) and checking what dhcp requests are received and
sent.

If you suspect the phones are not issuing a dhcp request, debug the dhcp relay
by using the debug udp forwarding command

3. Configure Phone number 1003 as a second line on both phones in BR2, when a
call comes in to 1003 it should ring on both phones and be answered by the first
user to respond. The second call should ring on the available phone.

4. Make sure you allow dialing from BR2 only by selecting specific line appearance.

5. Make sure all phones display the same general information, aside from the line
specific configuration; this refers to HQ, BR1 and BR2.

6. Create another line for BR2 Phone 2, on button 6 of the 7960 and assign to it
directory number 1005. Make sure this line will not allow call waiting.

7. Verify that the ATAs second line will not register.

8. Configure 1003 as the second line for both phones and make sure that calls to
directory number 1003 will ring both phones; if the line is busy on that phone
then the call should be shown with visible indication and with no ring. The
other phone should ring as usual.

Chapter 2 Call Manager and Call Manager Express Configuration

9. Allow phone 1 to pickup calls ringing and on hold on phone 2 and vice versa,
this should work for internal and external calls.

10. Both phone 1 and phone 2 are members of VIP sales group and are required to
take calls dialed to 442076301111. The calls are expected to ring the phone that
was idler then the other. If no one answers the call for 8 seconds, it is assumed
that the user is on a break and he should be switched to a DND mode. Calls that
passed both phones (busy or no answer) should be forwarded to DN 1000.

11. Define voice port 0/2/0 on BR1 as analog phone that will work while the router
is in H.323 mode, the phone should have DN on 5050 and it should send calling
name and number. Also calls coming to this port from the PSTN should allow
calling name and number to be presented internally.
