These are to keep the comic book universe and the Marvel Studio line of films in sync going forward. Both Dr. Strange and Hulk films confirmed for Phase 3. The Hulk films are rumored to be based on Greg Paks runs including Planet Hulk and World War Hulk where the Hulk will sacrifice himself at the end of Avengers 2 and be stranded on a distance planet. Later he will return in World War Hulk, just in time for Avengers 3. Following AGE OF ULTRON, Marvel Comics is following up with another event later this year by Jonathan Hickman called INFINITY which features the Avengers 2 villain Thanos. The INFINITY event is meant to tie Marvel space titles including Nova, Thanos Rising, and Guardians of the Galaxy. Marvel will begin with a Free Comic Book Day issue spotlighting the upcoming event. Currently Marvel Tomorrow seems like a better marketing initiative than Marvel NOW! The trade collections are beginning to collect 5-issue story arcs rather than the 6-issue story arcs from a decade ago. AGE OF ULTRON undergoes a new Marvel universe similar to AGE OF APOCALYPSE Uncanny Avengers #8AU brings both Kang and the Apocalypse Twins Superior Spider-Man takes another status quo change as the Green Goblin returns Ultimate Comics Spider-Man #23 forces Miles Morales to quit after Venom War Mark Millar brings Kick Ass 3 - the final story arc after the movie sequel Scarlet #8 brings back both Brian Michael Bendis and Alex Maleev

DEVIL COMICS PULL LIST DC Comics May Solicitations


Following Aprils WTF Certified, DC Comics has a quiet May as it prepares for the upcoming TRINITY WAR event. DC continues to supply new annuals to spotlight their characters and provide a great jumping-on point for the main series as well as to further flesh out the characters of the DCU's New 52. DC spoiled some of the events from last months WTF Certified solicitations. Blockbuster is part of the Secret Society and breaking down Hawkman Katana fought Killer Croc Power Girl returns to her classic look while she takes on Supergirl Batman takes on Man-Bats who may be under Victor Zsasz Catwoman is imprisoned in Arkham Asylum by the Justice League of America The Birds of Prey take on a female Mr. Freeze Nightwing takes on the new Creeper while a new Batwing rises The Green Lantern franchise deal with the Wrath of the First Lantern The Phantom Stranger is stabbed by Pandora while Justice League Dark saves him Justice League Dark deals with Dr. Destiny Booster Gold arrives in the past and meets Jonah Hex of the Firestorm, The Savage Hawkman, Ravagers, Sword of

Meanwhile DC Comics cancels Deathstroke, Fury Sorcery and Team 7 with last issues out in May.

Geoff Johns having spent nearly 10 years on the Green Lantern franchises leaves the book on a high note following the events of Wrath of the First Lantern. All the previous writers leave the titles to make room for new creative teams including Robert Venditti (X-O Manowar) on Green Lantern, Joshua Hale Fialkov on Green Lantern Corps and Red Lanterns, Justin Jordan takes on Green Lantern: New Guardian. Both Keith Griffen and Scott Kolins take on the Orange Lantern Larfleeze. While the Green Lantern franchise undergoes a revamp in June, DC Comics May Solicitation includes the following highlights: The Supergirl of Earth 2 becomes the Supergirl of the New 52 The Prologue to the Trinity War begins in Justice League #20 The Flash faces off against his rival the Reverse Flash The Earth 2 Annual debuts the new Batman Team 7 finally ends where it is revealed what separated them The Masters of the Universe tackles the Origin of Hordak Vertigo comics present the 12-issue series The Wake by Snyder and Murphy

Valiant Entertainment May Solicitations


The HARBINGER WARS event continues within the pages of Harbinger and Bloodshot. Toyo Harada wants the children of Generation Zero rescued by Bloodshot from Project Rising Spirit. The Renegades face Generation Zero who are protected by Bloodshot in Vegas. X-O Manowar continues with PLANET DEATH while Archer and Armstrong #0 and Shadowman #0 kick off their third story arcs. The events of the Valiant Universe bring the interconnectivity between the titles as the characters share the same universe.

DC COMICS FEBRUARY CRITIQUES BATMAN VOLUME 3: DEATH OF THE FAMILY


The Joker returns after his appearance in Detective Comics #1 to reclaim his severed face. The Joker goes back to where they first met ACE Chemical where Harley Quinn disguised as the Red Hood traps Batman. Meanwhile the Joker heads to Wayne Manor and kidnaps Alfred and pours ammonia over his eyes to blind him. Batman escapes the trap and heads home to find Alfred kidnapped by the Joker. He heads to the home of James Gordon to find him poisoned by the Joker. Batman brings in Nightwing to prevent the Joker from poisoning the Gotham reservoir however the Joker is one step ahead of him. The Joker traps Batman and reveals to him that he knows all of his allies secret identities as well as Batman himself. Bruce reveals a past story of how the Joker may have known the identities of the Bat-Family. Batman now returns to Arkham Asylum to face the Joker. The Batman faces the traps and people the Joker has set up against him including Mr. Freeze, Clayface, and Scare crow. Batman finally arrives to face the Joker, Riddler, Two-Face, and the Penguin. The Joker reveals he has the upper hand by holding his Bat-Family hostage. No matter how close Batman gets to the Joker, his Bat-Family will always hold him back because he cares for them. The Joker asks Batman to sit in a chair to electrocute him. The back-up reveals that he as a covered dinner plate waiting for Batman and his family. The Joker gathers all of the members of the Batman Family to reveal what is under the dinner plates. As the dinner plates opened, the cut up faces the family stares back at them. Batman fights his way out and discovers the dinner plates with the cut up faces was a joke. Joker lied about know their identities so Batman turns the tables as well that he knows his. The first arc dealt with the Court of Owls and led to the birth of Owlman in the New 52. However his identity as Bruce Wayne Jr. is inclusive during the end of that story arc. The Death of the Family ends a similar way with the Joker escaping for another day and Batman back on top with no real repercussions. There will definitely be another Batman crossover because DC Comics makes more money than actual real stories. BATGIRL: DEATH OF THE FAMILY


Gail Simones final arc follows the Killing Joke as Barbara Gordon has recovered after begin paralyzed by the Joker. The Jokers men have come to terrorize Barbaras mother and kidnap her. They have come for Barbara and she quickly defeats them. Her brother James Gordon Jr. leads her to the Joker who cut off the ring finger of her mother. He uses the severed finger to propose to Batgirl. SERIES HIGHLIGHTS - James Gordon Jr. helps her sister as Batgirl follows the Jokers instructions to get married - The Joker plans to sever the arms and legs of Batgirl and keep her alive in a basement - James Gordon Jr. arrives and reveals he says Mrs. Gordon so Batgirl can kick ass - James knocks out Batgirl and reveals that he lied about Mrs. Gordon - The Joker has taken Batgirl and he may have done something to her - Batgirl confronts her brother James This hardcover collects Batgirl #0 Batgirl #1317 RECOMMENDED 4 OUT OF 5

JOKER: DEATH OF THE FAMILY COMPANION


After Joker returns after his appearance in Detective Comics #1, he inflicts both physical and emotional trauma on the Batman Family. Some of the tie-ins are not reader friendly so the reader gets lost in the backstory while waiting for the Death of the Family tie-in story. Catwoman #13-14 The Joker kidnaps an orphan to see if Catwoman would save him. The Joker is trying to convince Catwoman to stay away from Batman. Suicide Squad #14-15 Harley Quinn makes a deal with the Joker that he will leave her dead boyfriends body alone if she can send a message to Batman. Afterwards the Joker hangs Harley by her neck. The Joker wants to give Harley a chemical peel however Harley escapes and reunites with the Suicide Squad. Detective Comics #15-16 Clayface and Poison Ivy are married however she is kidnapped by the Penguin and buried alive while her husband takes down Batman. Batman uses herbicide to treat Clayface so he is no longer under the influence of Poison Ivy. The Joker has taken the Penguin to Arkham Asylum as Emperor Penguin takes over his empire. Batman deals with the League of Smiles running around Gotham while Emperor Penguin commits murders and blames the Joker. Batman and Robin #15-16 Robin attempts to track down the Alfred however is led into a trap by the Joker who places him against a toxin-laced Batman. However it is not Batman but a former martial artist. The Joker may have done something to Robin and puts it within a covered dinner plate. Nightwing #15-#16 The Joker kidnaps members of the Halys Circus and transforms them. One of them attacked Nightwing before she was subdued. Now the Joker is targeting more members of the circus. Nightwing rushes to Halys Circus but the Joker transforms their members into Jokers. Dick is captured while the Joker holds up a dinner plate. Red Hood and the Outlaws #15-17 Jason Todd confronts the Joker after his death and resurrection. The Joker reveals to Jason that he was there in the shadows as he was growing up and forged his destiny. The Outlaws attempt to track down Jason however they help the Teen Titans deal with the mess the Joker created. While the Joker plans something special for Jason. The Joker plants something within the Red Hoods mask that burns his face. Teen Titans #15-16 Red Robin is kidnapped by the Joker and the Teen Titans calls on Batgirl. She helps the Teen Titans stay on the right track. Kid Flash searches for Red Robin with Solstice however manage to stir up the Joker poison on innocent civilians. Outnumbered and clueless until the timely arrival of the Outlaws: Arsenal and Starfire. The Joker pits both Red Hood and Red Robin against one another or their fathers die. They work together and target the Joker however they fall into his trap. BATWOMAN VOLUME 3
Batwoman teams up with Wonder Woman to take down the missing children held by gods and monsters. Wonder Woman takes Batwoman to an Amazonian Arkham Asylum where they confront one of the sons of Medusa, Pegasus. Wonder Woman promises to behead Pegasus when he reveals where the missing children and Medusa are located. As Batwoman and Wonder Woman head to Gotham, Medusa releases the Hydra to wreak havoc as they return. SERIES HIGHLIGHTS - Detective Sawyer asks D.E.O. Agent Chase to help as she spots the missing children - Batwoman attempts to save the children as Wonder Woman takes care of the Hydra - Medusa uses the blood of the children to summon her mother Ceto - Ceto the Mother of all Monsters including Medusa arrives - Both Wonder Woman and Batwoman stops Medusa and rescues the children - Kathy Kane asks Maggie Sawyer to marry her as her sister Alice wakes up This hardcover collects Batwoman #0 Batwoman #12-17 RECOMMENDED 4 OUT OF 5

JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA: THRONE OF ATLANTIS


Aquaman visits his brother the Orm to see if he is behind the recent theft of Atlantean artifacts and plans on attacking the surface world. Meanwhile someone has released the Trench. An aircraft carrier launches missiles which hit Atlantis provoking them to attack. Both Superman and Woman catch an aircraft carrier from destroying Metroplis as Orm attacks the surface world. The Justice League wants to bring Orm in but his older brother Aquaman defends him. The story had little impact as it placed Aquaman as King of Atlantis and leaving the Justice League one member short. Amanda Waller is seen to assemble a new Justice League while Batman opens their ranks. SERIES HIGHLIGHTS - The Justice League takes on both Orm and Aquaman but faces the Atlanteans - Orm defeats the Justice League and takes them under water - Cyborg calls on reinforcements to help the Justice League - Dr. Morrow wants to activate the Tornado while Cyborg wants his lungs removed - Orm prepares to flood Boston however Zatanna converts the water to ice - Aquaman takes the crown from Orm to become the King of Atlantis - Both Atlanteans and the Justice League combine to stop the Trench - Aquaman uses the Scepter of the Dead King to send the Trench home - Aquaman casts Orm out to the surface world to face charges for his crimes - Aquaman leaves the Justice League for Atlantis while Batman opens ranks within - In Antarctica, an enemy awakens leading to the next story arc Death of a King This hardcover collects Aquaman #14-17 Justice League #15- 17 RECOMMENDED 4 OUT OF 5

THE FLASH: GORILLA WARFARE


The Rogues and the Flash team up to stop the army from Gorilla City led by King Grodd. 15 years ago Solovar arrived at the Central City Zoo. In the present Patty discovers the Flash is Barry as Solovar prevents him from being impaled by King Grodd. Barry gets possible scenarios to defeat Grodd and decides he must turn himself over to him. The Flash surrenders to Grodd and takes him into the Speed Force where Iris is trapped. The gorillas retreat to Gorilla City due to the absence of their leader King Grodd, who is in the Speed Force with the Flash. Grodd is defeated and Flash returns his friends home. One week later Dr. Elias prepares something special for the Flash and one month later the Reverse Flash is born. This hardcover collects The Flash #0 The Flash #13-17 RECOMMENDED 4 OUT OF 5

MILLARWORLD FEBRUARY CRITIQUES KISS ASS 2: HIT-GIRL

The sequel to Kiss Ass combines both the Hit-Girl and the Kiss Ass 2 mini-series. Hit-Girl plans on taking out some organized crime before they start assembling after the events in Kiss Ass. Hit-Girl plans on training Kiss Ass however she wants to know how to be normal as Red Mist commits his first public crime. Afterwards he travels around the world Kiss Ass broke his hand while taking down the Russian mob, so Hit-Girl goes in it alone to take out the Colombian drug gang. The drug gang brings in the crime family who decides to take care of Hit-Girls stepfather Marcus Williams and his family. However Mindy

takes care of them and targets everyone on her shit list and targets people on death row. Back in Eastern Europe, Red Mist remembers Kick Ass secret identity. The prelude showed the backstory to Kick Ass 2 and majority of the series lacked suspense because of it. The hyper-level of violence was entertaining however after a while it lacked much impact. In May 2013, Millar is prepared to give us the final installment with Kick Ass 3. NEEDS IMPROVEMENT 3 OUT OF 5

IMAGE COMICS FEBRUARY CRITIQUES THE WALKING DEAD: THE GOVERNOR SPECIAL
During the third season of The Walking Dead, the Governor put walker heads in a fish tank and stared at them. The scene is supposed to be horrific and presents him as evil. The special explores the reasoning behind him putting the heads in the tanks. The Governor wants the evil to stare back at him so he is no longer scared but amused. RECOMMENDED 4 OUT OF 5

IDW PUBLISHING FEBRUARY CRITIQUES STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION: HIVE TPB
The Star Trek: The Next Generation episode The Best of Both Worlds introduce Locutus who is Captain Picard assimilated as a Borg. Now 500 years after the final Federation world fell, Locutus feels perfection has not been achieved and purpose was taken away. Locutus reassembles Data to kill the Borg Queen. In the present a Borg invasion is imminent however they have come in peace and seek the former Locutus. The Borg has experimented with inter-dimensional travel with severe consequences as Species 1881 has followed them back to this universe. Species 1881 want perfect Chaos compared to the Borg who was looking for perfection. Borg wants the Federation to work together with their ambassador, Seven of Nine. Seven of Nine was asked to volunteer as an inside man with a filter so she will be able to maintain her individuality and still be connected to the Borg. Starfleet and the Borg combine forces to intercept Species 1881 and beam a hazard team with Wolf and Vulcan Commandos on board on of their ships. They find out that the beings have been engineered by the Borg. Picard realizes its a trap and Seven of Nine loses control of the filter. In the future Seven of Nine is the Borg Queens protective sentinel which is defeated by both Locutus and Data. Both Data and Locutus defeat the Queen however Data is sent back to alter the past to save Picard in the present. Data asks Picard to become Locutus once again so the Borg Queen will accept the virus within Picard. The plan works and thousands of Borg are freed however Seven of Nine sacrifices herself to save them. This paperback collects Star Trek: The Next Generation: Hive #1-4 RECOMMENDED 4 OUT OF 5

VALIANT ENTERTAINMENT FEBRUARY CRITIQUES HARBINGER #0


The issue explores the origin of Toyo Harada who is the CEO of the Harbinger Foundation. Harada is the reverse of the characteristics of Professor Charles Xavier of the X-Men. He activates people with latent powers so he can gather them for a new benevolent social order. Harada mentors Darpan who makes his victims relive the worst moments of their lives. He uses Darpan to kill the Syrian president so he can claim the oil rights. The issue portrays Harada as a person seeking change to make the world better by any means necessary. The story does very little to enhance the overall tension of the series. A link to Bloodshot would have been prior to the Harbinger Wars event scheduled for April. Over the issue could have been maximized to really attract new readers to the series. RECOMMENDED 4 OUT OF 5

SHADOWMAN VOLUME 1: BIRTH RIGHTS


In the past Josiah Louis Boniface takes on Master Darque and they both disappears into a portal to the Deadside. A pregnant Helena LeBreton leaves New Orleans and an adult Jack Boniface returns years later looking for answers about his birth parents. He finds them criminals and throws away the necklace his mother gave him. In the present a vicious entity called Mr. Twist is created out of dead bodies and controls two New Orleans police officers. They arrest Jack and shoot him dead. However since Jack threw away the amulet the Shadowman Host, Loa, has found him and bonds with him. Shadowman only weakness is that he can be killed in board daylight. While Jack meets both Alyssa Myles and Dox, Master Darque plans to return back and tells Mr. Twist to deal with the new Shadowman. SERIES HIGHLIGHTS - Mr. Twist captures Dox and Jack and Alyssa travel to the Deadside - Jack meets a talking monkey named Jaunty while Alyssa deals - The Deadside is inbetween everywhere and Master Darque managing it - Jack meets his father and gives him choice of becoming Shadowman - Master Darque asks Mr. Twist to kill Dox so he may return to New Orleans - Mr. Twist opens the Deadside however Shadowman appears with Alyssa - Mr. Twist takes Shadowman back to the Deadside where Master Darque lies - Shadowman feeds Mr. Twist to the lost souls of Deadside and traps Master Darque This paperback collects Shadowman #1-4 RECOMMENDED 4 OUT OF 5
