~ MESSAGE FROM MRS KENNAUGH ~

It was wonderful to see so many of you during conferences this week! We appreciate the many ways parents partner with us to ensure student success. Attending your child's conference tells them that school is important and that you value learning. The most consistent predictor of a childs academic success is their parents expectations of them. Therefore, your involvement at conference time, and all year long, is vital to your child's ultimate success. I encourage you to continue their learning outside of school by reading with them, listening while they read, discussing what is being read, playing rhyming games while driving in the car, having your child describe an object, or by having your child keep a journal of important events. The more you model the significance of reading and learning, the more your child will value it as well. I am thrilled to announce that we have author, Alan St. Jean, scheduled to visit our school next week. He will be here all day Wednesday and Thursday and assemblies are being scheduled for all classrooms at this time. Besides the assemblies, Mr. St. Jean will be visiting several classrooms where students will participate in a writing workshop. Mr. St. Jean has sent several books for us to read prior to his visit. Fourth through sixth grade classrooms will receive a copy of his chapter book Aidan of Oren: The Journey Begins. The lower grades will have several different books that they will share between their classrooms. We are anticipating a great response from the students as well as it being a wonderful learning opportunity for them. As always, if you have any questions or would like to discuss any concerns, please contact me.
