rEACH according to regulation (ec) no. 1907/2006 (reach), the manufacture or import of chemical substances in volumes exceeding 1 ton per year must be registered at the european chemicals agency (echa) in helsinki. reach registration is related to substances and not products, e.g. preparations/formulations of substances. Production, import and marketing of a reach-substance will be restricted to those uses evaluated in its registration dossier. the reach process starts with preregistration (1st june 2008 until 1st december 2008), which ensures the availability of preregistered substances to the registration date. the date of registration depends on the production volume of the substance and lies between 2010 and 2018. We confirm that we will, pursuant to reach requirements, pre-register all substances manufactured by clariant functional chemicals division in the eu or imported in the eu, that are relevant for the products listed in this brochure. however, no guarantee can be given that clariant will offer all listed products in the future, particularly over the 11 year phase of the reach implementation. if reach registration requirements lead to unacceptable costs, clariant will contact its customers to find an appropriate solution.
genapol, emulsogen, arkopal, sapogenat, dispersogen, calsogen, genamin, synergen, genagen are registered trademarks of clariant.
in this brochure a selection of clariants most important alkoxylates for crop Protection applications is shown. other types which are not mentioned here may be available locally or on request as well as aqueous emulsifier solutions of certain products (typically 80% or 90% active content) with improved handling properties.

Emulsogen LP and Emulsogen M are preferred emulsifiers for mineral oils. Both are characterized by a low pour point (ca. 0C) and remain homogeneous down to ca. 12C. Emulsogen MC is mainly used as an emulsifier for vegetable oils and leads to improved low temperature stability of the formulation.

Low molecular weight EO/POs typically have a molecular weight below 1000 g/mol. These surfactant molecules are small and flexible and can quickly adhere to newly formed surfaces. Medium molecular weight EO/POs typically cover molecular weights from about 1000 3000 g/mol. As a consequence of the increased molecular weight, these products tend to exhibit higher viscosity and/or waxier consistency. Their main application fields are as emulsifiers and dispersants in EC and SC formulations. High molecular weight EO/ POs have molecular weights typically above 3000 g/mol and are mostly waxy, only a few being liquid. They are used as co-emulsifiers or dispersants in EC or SC formulations.

4-Nonylphenol ethoxylates (NPEs) and 4-Octylphenol ethoxylates (OPEs) as well as the underlying phenols are listed in the EU SEC (2004) Document as substances with evidence of endocrinedisrupting effects (Category 1) whereas 2,4,6-Tri-sec.-butylphenol as well as its ethoxylated derivatives (Sapogenat T types) are not listed. Based on the structural elements of known endocrine disrupters (EDs), it is likely that the endocrine-disrupting effect of alkylphenols and derived ethoxylates is associated with - a para-substituted alkyl group on the aromatic ring with at least 3 carbon atoms - no polyalkylation on the aromatic ring Supporting evidence was obtained using three different in vitro receptor binding tests with Sapogenat T 130 and 2,4,6-Tri-sec.- butylphenol in which both molecules did NOT show endocrine- disrupting effects in any of these tests. In these test models the known EDs estradiol and 4-Octylphenol clearly showed endocrine-disrupting effects demonstrating the suitability of the test models. Based on available scientific facts published in literature as well as on the results from 3 different in vitro tests it can be concluded in a weight of evidence approach that it is unlikely that 2,4,6-Tri-sec.-butylphenol and the ethoxylated derivatives (Sapogenat T types) exhibit endocrine-disrupting effects.

Phosphated TSP ethoxylates are anionic emulsifiers and dispersing agents. Dispersogen TP and LF types differ in their degree of ethoxylation (TP: 16 moles EO, LF: 20 moles EO) and their mono-/diester ratio. The LF types are stand-alone products that offer better electrolyte stability compared to the TP types as well as higher dispersing power at low dispersion viscosity.

The matched pairs emulsifiers are a versatile, APE-free system containing only a few components for multiple active ingredient solutions. Matched pairs are emulsifier blends with optimized performance. So numerous active ingredients can be formulated with only a few (up to three) blends, saving space and time. Guide recipes for formulations are available on request.

Dioctyl sulfosuccinates are versatile surfactants, having outstanding wetting power (fast wetters) and dispersing properties. The broad choice of different solvents makes it possible to find a grade which is suitable for many different formulation types. Synergen W 02 and W 03 are very suitable for hydrolytically unstable active ingredients due to their very low water content.

Polyethylene glycols are used in agrochemical formulations as humectants, compatibilizers, and to increase low temperature stability. Additionally, certain PEGs also increase the bio-availability of active ingredients.
