hollow and landed near a large pile of
dirt. It stayed there for a few
minutes and a couple of Common
Ravens harassed it. Then it
flew through the hollow toward
observer and soared directly overhead
for a minute or two while gaining
altitude and flew through the
gorge. The other eagle soon followed
it. The third GOEA, an immature, was
at the same location within 10 minutes.

as it got to the adult, flew behind it,
flew over its back then flew under it
upside down and they spun around
each other one time while continuing to
fly south. They flew south together.

About 3-4 minutes later it circled low
over a field on the western slope of
Monterey Mt. east of VA 643. It gained
altitude, circling and drifting south over
the valley.

The top bird lifted, flew around the tree

on VA 638. The second followed a
minute later.
APRIL 15, 2006
Time: 0705-0740 bald eagles (2) Gordy Adamski, Brenda Tekin, Highland County Initially adults were not attending the
X adults Rick Webb nest. In a few minutes two adults flew
on nest #1 upstream toward it. One landed in the
PHOTOGARPHS nest and appeared to feed eaglets that
were not visible. The adult systemically
tipped its bill down, raised its head
slightly turning to her right, and tipped
bill down again. It repeated this action
several times in a manner consistent
with feeding two or three eaglets. A
second adult appeared and landed on
the nest. Both adults proceeded to
start ripping up something, perhaps a
fish. The landowner arrived and
confirmed nest activity.

hour the adult repeatedly chased the
juvenile from a perch tree overlooking
the Jackson River. The immature
would fly off and return to the tree. The
adult would appear agitated and then
chase the immature off again.

4 Time: 1010 golden eagle Tom Brody, Pen Goodall, VA 635 in Possum Trot Adult GOEA flew down very low over

observers stood nearby. It then
headed south gaining altitude.

area nothing. The river is 200-300 yards
east of the road at this site. Then two
BAEA flew upstream northward. An
adult BAEA was chasing a Basic II.
The adult proceeded in hot pursuit as
they flew low over the river at the
forest’s edge. The adult veered, turned
back, landed in a treetop and
vocalized. The Basic II continued to fly
rapidly upstream and out of sight. The
adult preened and gazed over the
open fields for about an hour. During
this time, the Basic II returned, flying
low along the river and the adult
chased it vigorously. The adult
returned to another tree nearby when
the Basic II flew quickly upstream. The
observers left for 30 minutes and both
eagles were gone when they returned.

over the ridge west-southwest.

River, 0.5 mile south of VA 606 and
Adult BAEA flew up from the river and
to a tree at the base of the ridge. After
immature north of site # 88 about 10.5 miles a few minutes, it flew north toward the
south of Monterey trout raceways. It went up and down
the area between 606 and the trout
raceways several times. On one
occasion it landed on the west side of
the road and perched high in a tree.
An immature BAEA approached and it
chased it--much like at site # 88 earlier
the same day. Eventually it flew south
and out of sight.

which is 450 yards east of VA 220.
They both flew when observers
attempted to position for a better view.
The adult flew low over river upstream
toward site # 88. The immature flew
up, circled as it gained altitude, rose to
mountain top height, then descended
and flew upstream in same direction as
adult.
