A pilgrimage is a journey or search of moral or spiritual significance.

Typically, it is a journey to a shrine or other location of importance to a person's beliefs and faith. Many religions attach spiritual importance to particular places: the place of birth or death of founders or saints, or to the place of their "calling" or spiritual awakening. A person who makes such a journey is called a pilgrim

Unlike some other religions, Hindus are not required to undertake pilgrimages during their lifetime. However, most Hindus who can afford to go on such journeys travel to numerous places like Char Dham (The Four Corners of India Pilgrimage sites) Puri, Rameswaram, Dwarka, and Badrinath ,.Kumbh Mela,Old Holy cities as per Puranic Texts like Varanasi , Allahabad,Haridwar-Rishikesh, Mathura-Vrindavan, and Ayodhya.,Major Temple cities: Puri, Vaishno Devi , Shirdi,Tirupati ,Shakti Peethas: Kalighat and Kamakhya. Dwarka is one of seven most holy places for Hindus in India where Varanasi is considered as the holiest of the seven holy cities It was the dwelling place of Lord Krishna..The modern city of Dwarka is located in the Jamnagar District of Gujarat. The
city lies in the westernmost part of India.

The present Dwarkadhish temple was built in 16th century CE, while the original temple was believed to have been built by Krishna's great grandson, King Vajra. The 5-storied temple is made of limestone and sand. A flag is hoisted in the temple tower five times each day. There are two gateways - Swarga Dwar, where pilgrims enter, and Moksha Dwar, where pilgrims exit. From the temple one can view the confluence of River Gomati flowing towards the sea. In Dwaraka, there are also shrines for Vasudeva, Devaki, Balarama and Revati,Subhadra, Rukmini Devi, Jambavati Devi and Satyabhama Devi. Dwarka is mentioned in the Mahabharata. It is said that this Dwarka was located near the site of the current city of Dwarka, but was eventually deserted and submerged into the sea. Nageshvara Jyotirlinga, one of the 12 holy shrines of Shiva, is located near Dwaraka. Dwarka is also the site of Dvaraka Pitha, one of the four cardinal mathas established by Adi Shankaracharya The Jagatmandir temple, which houses the Dwarkadhish, a form of Krishna, is also located in Dwaraka.
Bet Dwarka, is a small island situated some 30 miles away from Dwarka. It is a wonderful place for a trip with friends and family as well as for a pilgrimage. A similar deity to Lord Dwarakanath, is

also kept in Bet Dwaraka. The temple of Bet Dwarka can be reached by boat..Bet

Dwarka is famous for the magnificent Dwarkadhish Temple, Rukmani Temple and the Jain Temples. Mirabai, Surdas had composed lot of songs on Dwarakdish.
