BetweenWWIandWWIItheArmytankorganizationtrainedherewiththenLTCPattonand hissecondincommand,MAJEisenhower. Inthe1988BRAC,FortMeadehadtogiveup8,100acresoflandthatwereeventually In the 1988 BRAC Fort Meade had to give up 8 100 acres of land that were eventually transferredtotheDepartmentoftheInterior. Inthe1950s,thepostbecameheadquartersoftheNationalSecurityAgency (NSA).Thepost wasscheduledtocloseinthe1990s,butwaskeptopentosupporttheNSA. was scheduled to close in the 1990s but was kept open to support the NSA FortMeadeoperates5AccessControlPointswith9Inboundtrafficlanes. In2008accordingtotheGannettFlemingTrafficStudytherewereanaverageof34,000 vehiclesperdaycomingontotheinstallation. $4.6millionwasspentinFY10/11toupgradetheinfrastructureat4accesscontrolpointsto $4.6 million was spent in FY10/11 to upgrade the infrastructure at 4 access control points to prepareforAutomatedInstallationEntryTechnologyfor2013whichwillallowregistered vehiclesanddriverstoentertheinstallationthroughautomatedsystems.

FortMeadebecameatrainingcenterduringWorldWarII,itsrangesandotherfacilitiesused bymorethan200unitsandapproximately3,500,000menbetween1942and1946. In1942,theThirdServiceCommandopenedtheSpecialServicesUnitTrainingCenterwhere Soldiersweretrainedinallphasesoftheentertainmentfield.Entertainers,musicians,and othersinvolvedintheentertainmentindustry,includingswingbandleader,GlennMiller, servedinSpecialServices.FortMeadeisnowhometotheU.S.ArmyFieldBand,theArmy s served in Special Services. Fort Meade is now home to the U.S. Army Field Band, the Armys premiertravelingband.
