(Poverty is not hindrance in pursuing your dreams) When we want to look onto the top public elementary school in the Philippines, the basic idea that we comes up to our mind is may look upon the City. But it seems is not the case of this documentary. The Sindangan Elementary School in southern Leyte, you may shock that its located on the mountain top on one of the poorest province. This school you might seems to wonder many things, unusual, and exciting that are happened. But also this School was number two on the ranking of NEAT (National Elementary Achievement test) on 2006 base on the Department of Education. There are some problem in their prospective class room, library, some facilities, electric supply, and also the only one computer that some of the student didnt know how to use it. I wonder how that this school was one of the topped. It was a Monday morning. Day of beginning of the class, when Sandra Aguinaldo meets the students and teachers with their little beautiful smile in their lips, beyond of this after I watched, I found out in every smile that I seen on their face have a covert mysteries. One of the model for her achieve story of profession namely Teacher Lea Gabriel a math major teacher. Teacher Lea grew up in Sindangan, she move to manila working as a domestic helper to send herself to college, and she decided to return to her alma mater school for her to teach. Teacher Lea make a creative visual aid and also use game to teach a math to her student for them to exercise not only physical but also mental and their favorite subject is math, that in my part it seems interested. She also comes with a journey uphill to reach the house of the student and also encourage their parent to send their children on school but it was cause of poverty and the great distance of a school to their home thats why most of the children are not able to go to school. There are some of the student of Sindangan made contribute or help for teaching their school mates and sacrificing every day. Michelle Maitim was caught of Sandra attention in her aspiring story, walks two hours every day isnt simple there are many hindrances just to attend her class. Second student that Sandra inspired in Mildred Maturan her family status in life was lower class but her dreams continue to walk even if her journey a thousand miles to reach to the top to inspire all the student. She teach every Saturday to the grade 2 pupil, her allowance that she save weekly are used to buy a candies for the kids. She also walks every day one hour to their house to school. Abegail Cortina a grade 6 student, one of the outstanding Student of Sindangan Elementary School. Her dream is to become teacher someday. Sandra asks him what Quality or basis on how to be outstanding and good student, she has a widely open mind in her age, she said Makinig sa teacher at mag-aral ng mabuti para matupad ang pangarap. Abegail start to teach a English textbook to the grade 1 students, she translate into tagalong and bisaya to help them to easy to understand. There are many outstanding students that will never even make to High school because of poverty. After their Elementary Education many of the boys go straight to work in the rice field, while the girls go off to manila to apply house maids.

Discusses (cause and effect)

Skul ko no. 1 was the most striking and aspiring documentary for me. This case or issue are not focusing, viewpoint, and reflect of one school, it covers all the public school and Filipino children that seems journey and experience like this. There are some news that I watched about all the students that cross over the river, sea, uphill, and mountains, but theres no mountains, rivers, and even a mile road that can stop and end their journey to pursuing their ambitions, dreams for their future. Unfortunately Im so sad that there are some students dont give a value for their opportunity to study and to learn, but some Filipino students their path seems to be endless and worthless because of modernity. There are some barriers or reason why most of the Filipino youth have no privileges to study, base on my point of view that I seen in this documentary. The first main cause of our country that most of the Filipino childrens taken back seat due to wide spread of poverty, even if there are free education or zero tuition that offer of the government to the poor families still it can afford to go in school because of lack of essential needs like bags, notebooks, and other materials . We cannot deny that we are the 3rd country that experience the great poverty, but also there are some Filipinos that cant even afford to eat three times a day because of lack of employment and hunger, thats way it may become hindrances for them that the most important is food rather than education for their children, also include the child labor on this problems. The second one about incapable of or government to give a good and standard education also government doesnt or lacking giving a found for the new projects like school, bridge, and road for the students to be easy to go, include also the boat because some of prospective Filipino children that I watch on the news they cross over the river, and seas for them to go in school, cause their home was place on the island, may also cause of the rampant corruption of the government officials. We all know that the government trying their best to give the students needs like books, classrooms, and teacher that give student a highly education, but this is not good enough to resolve all the problem of all Filipino childrens who cries for their needs. Government is not blind to see teacher leaving the country looking for job and a teacher teaching in diff. levels but with fewer books. If the government focus on this all issues the quality of education awaits them and if all provinces the cover in every region gives enough attention, the people who live will be change a little bit comfort will be achieve, also low rate of out of school youth. In my part Im so inspire in this documentary, that I include in the thousand of the Filipino youth that is hopeful and lucky despite of many hindrances that I struggle but I continue to reaching my goal. My mother always said Wala akong kayamanan material na maibibigay sayo pero ang pag-aaral mo lang ang aking maipapamana sayo na hindi makukuha ni numan . I wish all the students are like them. Believe in saying that Poverty is not hindrance to success.

Relation (on topic)

I relate this documentary base on the topic that I learned in the past discussion in cultural anthropology. The sociology is the study of diff. problem that come up in our society like poverty, family problem, etc. Everything that will happen and experience through some independent variables (cause) of poverty and the dependent variables (Effect) is lack of opportunity to learn or out of school youth. Survival of the fittest, we all knows that our societies are composing of rich and poor. Rich people or high status they are longer sustainable in life, they can buy what they want that will support their needs. Hierarchy of needs that in the lower class or poor they cant acquire all the basic needs like food, shelter, clothes, safety, financial security, health etc. that in our society they are inequality in treating by the government. Cultural lag of the Sindangan Elementary School, they were left behind beyond the modernity of some school in our country. They were delay in adapting the innovation of other culture. The material culture is one of the important aspect that cultural log may not be happen example of this like book, advance technology like computer, and other tools that can help their opportunity to learn and open and lessen the curiosity of the students in the advance culture, through this it may avoid also the cultural shock when they go t other place like city.
