Pressure sensing line A Completely separate pressure sensing line shall be provided for each fire pump and for the jockey pump. The sensing line shall be arranged in accordance with Figure A-7-5.2.1. of NFPA 20. The sensing line shall be equipped with two restrictive orifice unions each. Restricted orifice unions shall be ground-face unions with brass restricted diaphragms drilled for a 2.4 mm orifice. Restricted orifice unions shall be mounted in the horizontal position, not less than 1.5 m apart on the sensing line. Two test connections shall be provided for each sensing line. Test connections shall consist of two brass 15 mm globe valves and 8 mm gauge connection tee arranged per NFPA 20. One of the test connections shall be equipped with a 0-1380 kPa water oil-filled gauge. Sensing line shall be connected to the pump discharge piping between the discharge piping control valve and the check valve.

2.03 Maintenance (jockey) pump Pressure maintenance pump shall be electric motor driven, horizontal shaft or in-line vertical shaft, centrifugal type with a rated discharge of 60 liters per minute. Pump shall draft as indicated and shall discharge into the system at the downstream side of he pump discharge gate valve. An approved indicating gate valve of the outside screw and yoke (O.S.&Y.) type shall be provided in the maintenance pump discharge and suction piping. Oil-filled water pressure gauge and approved check valve in the maintenance pump discharge piping shall be provided. Check valve shall be swing type with removable inspection plate. A. Pressure Maintenance Pump Controller Pressure maintenance pump controller shall be arranged for automatic and manual starting and stopping and equipped with a "manual-off-automatic" switch. The controller shall be completely terminally wired, ready for field connections, and wall-mounted in a NEMA Type 2 drip-proof enclosure. The controller shall be equipped with a bourdon tube pressure switch or a solid state pressure switch with independent high and low adjustments for automatic starting and stopping. A sensing line shall be provided connected to the pressure maintenance pump discharge piping between the control valve and the check valve. The sensing line shall conform to paragraph, PRESSURE SENSING LINE. The sensing line shall be completely separate from the fire pump sensing lines.

PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.01

Installation A. Comply with manufacturer's written installation and alignment instructions and with industry standards. Install pumps in locations indicated and arrange to provide access for periodic maintenance, including removal of motors, impellers, couplings, and accessories. Install suction and discharge pipe sizes equal to or greater than the diameter of fire pump nozzles. Install valves of types and at locations indicated that are same size as piping connecting fire pumps, bypasses, test headers, and other piping systems. Install pressure gages on suction and discharge of fire pumps at integral pressure gage tappings provided. Support pumps and piping separately so weight of piping system does not rest on pumps. Install piping accessories, hangers and supports, anchors, valves, meters gages, and equipment supports as indicated for complete installation. Install flow meters and sensing elements where required. Install flow-measuring system components and make connections according to manufacturer's written installation instructions. Electrical Wiring: Install electrical devices furnished by equipment manufacturers but not specified to be factory mounted. Furnish copy of manufacturer's wiring diagram submittal to Electrical Installer. 1. Verify that electrical wiring installation is according to manufacturer's submittal and installation requirements of Electrical Specification Sections. Do not proceed with equipment startup until wiring installation is acceptable. Make piping connections, check alignment, and take corrective measures required. 1. Adjust alignment of pump and driver shafts for angular and parallel alignment. 2. Alignment Tolerances: Meet manufacturer's recommendations. Connect fire pump discharge piping to building fire-protection water systems. Connect flow-measuring system components according to manufacturer's written installation instructions. Connect fire pump controllers to building fire alarm system. Sections. Refer to Electrical Specification

N. 3.02 Tests.

Electrical wiring and connections are specified in Division 16 Sections.

A.

Field acceptance and subsequent tests. 1. When the installation is completed, an operating test shall be made in the presence of the engineer of the pump manufacturer, and the authority having jurisdiction. Filed acceptance tests shall be followed insofar as they apply, and for well installations the test shall also include a continuous run, long enough to satisfy the owner having jurisdiction that the pump performs as required. In no event shall the test be for less than 1 hour. 2. At annual test-time both static and pumping water level shall be determined.

3.03

Operations and maintenance. A. Operation 1. Before stating the unit for the first time after installation all electric connections to the motor and also the discharge piping from the pump shall be checked. With the top drive coupling removed, the motor shall be momentarily operated to ensure that it rotates in the proper direction. Then the impellers shall be set for proper clearance and the top drive coupling reinstalled. a. Setting impellers. The setting of the impellers should be undertaken only by engineer of the pump manufacturer. Improper setting will develop excessive friction loss by rubbing of impellers on pump seals with resultant increase in power demand. If adjusted too high there will be a loss incapacity, and full capacity is vital for fire pump service. The top shaft nut should be locked or pinned after proper setting. 2. With the above precautions taken the pump shall be started and allowed to run. The operation shall be observed for vibration while running and also for any malfunctioning of the driver.
