Former Las Pias Rep. Cynthia Villar, Team PNoy senatorial candidate, thanked voters for their continuous support as she ranked fourth in the latest Pulse Asia survey. Villar obtained 44.0 percent of votes in the latest polls covering the period of February 24 to February 28, 2013. The three-time con-
gresswoman, who has gained the moniker Misis Hanep Buhay due to her livelihood projects that generated jobs to poor Filipinos, was also No. 4 in the SWS survey a month earlier. This ranking on election surveys, according to Villar, motivates her to work harder to convey her pro-poor advocacies. to page 2

TACLOBAN CITY The Samar I Electric Cooperative (Samelco I) Employees Union has re-extended the deadline for the management to negotiate on collective bargaining agreement (CBA) until tomorrow (March 15) before launching a strike. In a fifth conciliation meeting Wednesday night held at Samelco I office in Calbayog City, the management appealed to extend the deadline until March 15 where the six-member board of directors will convene for a special meeting. Union president Divina Gracia Balite said they granted re-extension because of their willingness to sit down with the management. We have agreed to give them another last chance to change their decision but we are very eager to go on strike anytime if on Friday the
The board decision is already final but we will try to follow the suggestion of DOLE and NCMB, Payod said. He maintained that they cannot provide additional benefits to workers as it owes the Power Sector Assets and Liabilities Management Corp. about P300 million. Chato issued a certification on March 4 affirming the union as the sole and exclusive bargaining agent of the employees. The ruling was in response to the Nov. 28, 2012 appeal of the management questioning the legality of pre-election conference and validity of election. Conciliation meetings have been held after the union filed a notice of strike last Jan. 31 on the ground of managements refusal to enter into a collective bargaining agreement. (SARWELL Q. MENIANO)

n the midst of the on-going crisis in Sabah where Filipinos are being killed despite being non-combatants and are merely residing there and have nothing to do with Kirams forces, the Philippine government must take the necessary efforts to prevent a humanitarian crisis there. Lately, such an expected move nally came. Preparations are now underway to prepare for the arrival of Filipinos from Sabah to the provinces of Basilan, Sulu and Tawi-Tawi, this as a result of the national governments initiative to mobilize agencies that could look into this matter. Tasked to ensure the safety of its citizens at all times, the government cannot just ig-
nore the plight of beleaguered countrymen in that part of the world. At least, they should be brought home to safer grounds. Reports have it that around 1,500 evacuees have already ed Sabah, and a lot more are to follow suit and could thus swell to crisis proportion. Scattered in different parts of Mindanao, these evacuees have arrived from Sabah over the weekend. Social welfare workers have been attending to them, giving them food and fare money so they can join their relatives in Mindanao. The government agencies have planned evacuation, relief distribution and livelihood

and bring them to safetyinstead of sanding army battalions there and wage war against a neighboring country. This is not cowardice; this is wisdom that could avoid bloodshed and loss of dear lives.
Human nature dictates that special attention is given to a special person as a worthy sign of love and gratitude for the immense sacrifices he/she has gone through, most specially as he/she ascends the 90th ladder of life. Here, the special person referred to is MRS. NECITAS PASAGUIALTERA CORDERO our most adored mother, whose 90th birthday falls on 15th March. WITNESSES TO JESUS
[Jesus said to the Jews,] If I testify on my own behalf, my testimony cannot be verified. But there is another who testifies on my behalf, and I know that the testimony he gives on my behalf is true. You sent emissaries to John, and he testified to the truth. I do not accept testimony from a human being, but I say this so that you may be saved. He was a burning and shining lamp, and for a while you were content to rejoice in his light. But I have testimony greater than Johns. The works that the Father gave me to accomplish, these works that I perform testify on my behalf that the Father has sent me. Moreover, the Father who sent me has testified on my behalf. But you have never heard his voice nor seen his form, and you do not have his word remaining in you, because you do not believe in the one whom he has sent. You search the scriptures, because you think you have eternal life through them; even they testify on my behalf. But you do not want to come to me to have life. I do not accept human praise; moreover, I know that you do not have the love of God in you. I came in the name of my Father, but you do not accept me; yet if another comes in his own name, you will accept him. How can you believe, when you accept praise from one another and do not seek the praise that comes from the only God? Do not think that I will accuse you before the Father: the one who will accuse you is Moses, in whom you have placed your hope. For if you had believed Moses, you would have believed me, because he wrote about me. But if you do not believe his writings, how will you believe my words?
What is the most common complaint of homeowners in residential subdivisions that had mushroomed in Tacloban citys outskirts in recent years, particularly in those subdivisions that presently stand on former swamps and lowlying, muddy grounds? Well, its about the badly damaged road leading to their place. Its a common sight among interior subdivisions in particular. Their entrance and exit road usually abounds with huge cracks and holes that, unfortunately, remain unfixed over the years, causing bumpy and uncomfortable rides, not to mention the danger that they pose to daily motorists and commuters alike. These roads have
been prone to damage for some reasons. For one, they accommodate vehicles of various sort day in and day out, causing them to be busted endlessly. There being no other passage going in and out, residents cannot help but frequent the road. This, of course, contributes to the deterioration of the structure. Lucky for the residents if the road had been constructed with utmost quality, the specifications strictly followed. Problem is, the developers particularly the smalltime ones, had constructed such roads only in compliance with, say, Pag-ibig requirements. They are actually of inferior quality, made of substandard materials. As what happens in

LSDE: March 7, 14 & 21, 2013 by the attached certification from the Civil Registrar General. The information on the fact of birth of Brannon Anthomy Luis Ballete was supplied by his father after his birth while she (Suzette) was still in the hospital. The erroneous information supplied to the hospital eventually resulted in the Certificate of Live Birth registered with the Local Civil Registrar of Tacloban City under Registry No. 96-3216, in the name of Antonio Luis Ballete who is the subject of this petition. The father of Brannon Anthony Luis Ballete has no knowledge of the correctness of the entries in the subject certificate of live birth as he took it upon himself to put in the said erroneous and fictitious information therein. She and Anthony Bunag Gonzales parted ways soon after the birth of Brannon Anthony Luis Ballete. She went back to Oras, Eastern Samar and raised Brannon Anthony Luis Ballete at the house of her parents. It was there that her parents affectionately coined the nickname of Brannon to the baby ANTONIO LUIS BALLETE GONZALES. When the said child started studying in the elementary grade at Oras, Eastern Samar, he used the family name of his mother which is BALLETE. As such, the name he used since then and until the present is BRANNON ANTHONY LUIS BALLETE. This fact is shown by the copies of his school records. The certificate of live birth of the said child contains the following entries which correction is being sought: a. The entry of first name from ANTONIO LUIS to BRANNON ANTHONY LUIS; b. To delete the entry of middle name which is BALLETE and leave it blank; c. To correct the entry of Last Name from GONZALES to BALLETE; d. Sen Loren Legarda inspect the dresses made of straws and recycled candy wrappers at Ormoc City Hall. With her are Ormoc City Councilor Lea Villar and An Aton Channel manager Evelyn Baccol-Batic. VICKY C. ARNAIZ at Womens Congress in Baybay City in celebration of the International Womens Month with nearly 8,000 women joining the celebration. She said in celebrating womens month, we should aim to empower women so they will have the confidence to lead and to assert in their rights for the good of our countrymen and the
violations. Aside from conniving with the military, Fr. Salas also accused the Tans of maintaining its own private army composed not only of goons but mercenary soldiers and policemen as well. The Tans are known to have soldiers from the 34th IB and the 87th IB in their payroll. They are also connected to the Intelligence Service of the Armed Forces of the Philippines through Sgt. Emil Soza. The Tans meanwhile effectively control the police provincial mobile group through their man, Insp. Jovy Espinido. The other armed henchmen of the Tans are the Casaljay group based in Sta. Margarita and Calbayog City; the so-called Rebolusyonaryong Hukbong Bayan in Paranas and Hinabangan towns; and goons from Masbate who hide out in the islands of Tagapul-an, Almagro and Daram. Fr. Salas said the Tan political dynasty is notoriously corrupt and has used its political power to entrench and further its economic interests at the expense of the people. The Tans represent the ugliness of bureaucrat capitalism where government is run to serve not the people but local and foreign big business interests. The Tans have various business interests that are flourishing while they are in political office: moneylending, commercial stores, real estate and shipping. The Tan political dynasty, especially its matriarch Rep. Milagrosa
nation. The city of Tacloban, the towns of Mayorga and AlangAlang, Leyte were part of the senators barnstorming in
Tan, also has a long history of plundering state coffers for ghost projects. Because of their intertwined political and business interests, the Tans have also outraged the people with their nepotism and political patronage, exemplified by Rep. Tan and her four children running for key local positions as if just business as usual. While the Tans benefit from their political and economic power, the government employees and common people suffer grinding poverty, militarization, and deprival of basic social services. If the Tans will have their way, they will certainly further their oppression and exploitation of the people. *** The contradictions between ourselves and the enemy are antagonistic contradictions. Within the ranks of the people, the contradictions among the working people are non-antagonistic, while those between the exploited and the exploiting classes have a non-antagonistic aspect in addition to an antagonistic aspect. . As for the imperialist countries, we should unite with their peoples and strive to coexist peacefully with those countries, do business with them and prevent any possible war, but under no circumstances should we harbour any unrealistic notions about them. - Mao Tse Tung, On the Correct Handling of Contradictions Among the People (February 27, 1957), 1st pocket ed..

The senator said his PDAF was used for the construction and rehabilitation of public markets nationwide, and to provide medical assistance to indigent patients throughout the country through regional hospitals. *** Last Sunday, this column highlighted the position taken by the National Democratic Front against what, via its spokesperson Santiago Salas, it termed as a Tan political dynasty. Well, more has been said in the NDF statement, and QN quotes thus: The NDF-EV spokesperson also said the Tan political dynasty not only collaborated but even colluded in corruption with the military. Through their control of the provincial government, the Tans ensured financial and material support for the Social Integration Program, the 8th IDs surrender campaign against the New Peoples Army. The Tans also lent support to the 8th IDs brutal Special Operations Team campaigns of psywar and intimidation against the people. They also allowed the military to be the contractor in projects used for counterinsurgency, as well as supported relief and medical missions meant to deodorize the militarys human rights

country from its commitment with the UN to contribute in its peacekeeping efforts since both the global community and the Philippines derive benefits from such international cooperation. The active pursuit of our international commitments will at the same time accrue benefits for the country and our soldiers and police, Escudero said. Escudero said that the participation of the Philippines should even be upgraded by the government to the sending of military equipment since these are paid for by the United Nations. Optimal force and equipment deployment is ideal for the countrys participation in peacekeeping operations. The country will stand to earn more if it deploys equipment-heavy units instead of infantry battalions to allow it to receive more UN reimbursements, he said. As a UN founding member, the Philippines
has been contributing to maintaining international peace and security as called for in the UN Charter since the Korean war in 1950. The UN does not have its own army and military personnel or provide for its logistical and technical requirements which member states voluntarily provide. The UN, in turn, reimburse or provide loans for the purchase of equipment, Escudero said. Such an arrangement could benefit both UN members and the Philippines. The country has its own constraints on the home front, primarily the lack of equipment for our own internal forces, he said. (PR)
