Dr. Rolando Rolandelli is a specialist in gastrointestinal and colorectal surgery with an emphasis in inflammatory bowel disease. He came to Morristown after a career in academic surgery where he devoted time to practice gastrointestinal surgery and conduct research at university hospitals. He received his undergraduate and medical education in Argentina graduating from the University of Buenos Aires. He trained in General Surgery at the Central Air Force Hospital in Buenos Aires between 1978 and 1983. He then came to the University of Pennsylvania to pursue research in nutritional support of surgical patients. After three years of productive research he returned to surgical training at the Graduate Hospital in Philadelphia to achieve board certification in the US. During these 12 years of training and research Dr. Rolandelli developed a particular interest in inflammatory bowel disease. He was recruited out of his training to the University of California in Los Angeles (UCLA) where he took charge of colorectal surgery at the Center of Health Sciences in Westwood and the Sepulveda Veterans Hospital. In 1994 he returned back to Philadelphia to Hahnemann Hospital and the Philadelphia Veterans Hospital where he continued his practice in gastrointestinal and colorectal surgery. In 1998 he assumed the position of Chief of General Surgery and Residency Program Director at Temple University Hospital. In 2003 he came to Morristown Hospital as the Ames J. Filippone, Jr., M.D., Chairman of Surgery and Professor of Surgery at University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey in Newark. Dr. Rolandelli is a diplomat of the American Board of Surgery and a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. In recognition of his contributions to the field of colorectal surgery Dr. Rolandelli was granted Fellowship in the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons. Additionally, Dr. Rolandelli is a member of various professional organizations including, the Society of University Surgeons, Association for Academic Surgery, the Society of Surgeons for the Alimentary Tract, the Philadelphia Academy of Surgery, the Collegium Internationale Chirurgiae Digestivae and the International College of Surgeons. Dr. Rolandelli has published several books, and multiple scientific articles. He is recipient of several awards including, the American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition: Stanley Dudrick Research Scholar Award and the Temple University: Wallace P. Ritchie, Jr., M.D., Award, in recognition of excellence in the clinical and scientific practice of Surgery. Since 2003 Dr. Rolandelli developed a practice in gastrointestinal surgery in Morristown.
