Concept of being Human The concept of being human doesnt just delve on how we solve our problems, not

just how we try to be perfect and all of those kind of things but also delve on how we should also consider the trials that come before us. Because these trials make us stronger and better individuals. Homers The Odyssey talks about the course of life each of us go through. We all go through temptation; we all go through deception and disguise. Moreover, We all go through pain and love. It talks about how Ulysses the man of twists and turns travel from place to place just to return home to his wife Penelope after upsetting Poseidon. How he, Ulysses confronted temptation head on. And most importantly, it describes how an amazing strategist he is. How he uses his wits cunningly. We may not be as cunning as he, but what the book portrays about the concept of being human is that we all face challenges in our lives. And we all have our destiny. These all comes down to one thing, that we all face these challenges in order to complete our destiny. Destiny, just what really is destiny? Destiny is the events that will necessarily happen to a particular person or thing in the future. Yes, destiny may just be this but we dont make destiny merely out of wishing and being static. We make destiny out of our will, out of our hardwork and perseverance. Just like what Ulysses did. He didnt just sat down and relaxed for his destiny to come to him. This only tells us that we are all destined for something, something that we want to achieve, something that we want to be or want to have in the near future. However, we may think these are impossible for us to achieve. But perhaps we should put that thought aside and just do our best and face the future heads up. Just like in the case of Ulysses, he just did his best. And through this he was able to beat all the odds. Directing him towards home and his one true love who waited and waited long for him. This was because it was his destiny to come back to Penelope. To come back

home. The bottomline is, the concept of being human in Homers The Odyssey encompasses a very wide array of values from deceit to loyalty but it mainly focuses on the trials, how the protagonist solve these trials with sly and most importantly on destiny. In my own perception on the concept of being human, we are born to face certain elements. We are born to face these through out our lives. We were born to face challenges, pain, suffering, happiness, sadness, and most importantly imperfections. We all cannot escape from these. For we were all made this way. And for us to evade these, we should just face them head on and with a strong heart and will. Because I think these are the reasons why Ulysses was able to come back home. His will to go back to Ithaca and strong heart to face temptations along the way which was also diminished due to his amazing wits. The concept of being human that the Odyssey portrays helps us to realize that by doing our best nothing is impossible. Follow excellence and success will follow you No matter how hopeless we are in some things we should always bear in mind that we should do our very best because by doing our best we are gearing towards success. For doing our best is a catalyst of success. We may be imperfect, but our imperfections make us better individuals. They are the ones that mold us to be the best people in society, one of the productive ones. The concept of destiny my not really apply in contemporary times because, it may be useless to say so because earlier we defined destiny as something that is not reversible. It cannot be changed. But then again, we are the ones who molds our own destiny. This is what we believe but the idea of doing our best doesnt disappear. The idea of having a strong will doesnt vanish. I learned various things in the odyssey, mainly from their characters. I learned from Penelope that waiting is not wrong. I learned from Ulysses that I must persevere to succeed.
