IIHM Young Chef INDIA SCHOOLS 2012 Rules and Regulations

The Candidate will be allotted 2 hours to complete the items prepared. Another 15 minutes will be given prior to the start, for the student to collect his / her ingredients. Reporting time at the respective IIHM Campus for the prelims, starting 8th August is 9.00 am. The exact date will be communicated to the respective schools by the Chief Coordinators of the respective Zones Participants are required to come in their school uniform. Aprons and other related materials will be provided by IIHM. There will be items placed on a table e.g. Non vegetarian basic items, Vegetables along with condiments etc. These will not be listed as items will vary from region to region. The students will have to pick up items of his/her choice and prepare dishes out of the basic ingredients given. The candidate will make a minimum of two items, one Indian main dish (E.g. a curry or dry main course etc) with an accompaniment (E.g. Dal, Roti, Salad, Raita etc)of his/her choice within the stipulated time slot of 2 hours. If a student wishes to make more items, within the stipulated time, extra marks may be given for initiative. As an indication, of judging criteria, points will be awarded in each of the following areas (between 1 to 10 points). TASTE, TEXTURE, APPEAL APPEARANCE, COMPOSITION AND OVERALL

If a student is selected for the finals in London, the competition will heat up and the participant will be asked to plan a three course Indian menu which will consist of an Appetizer / Starter (E.g.Chaat item, kebab etc), a main course (E.g. a curry or dry Tak a Tin etc) and dessert. All these items will have to be completed within a three hour time slot that will be allotted.

Winner of the City Finals will be presented with trophies and certificates. For the Finals in London, the students cannot repeat the same menu that they cooked for the prelims. The student is required to plan a new menu of their own choice beforehand and send IIHM the list of the ingredients they will need and items will be sourced for them. Any non generic masala or ingredient the student wishes to use would be required to be carried by the student from India. The Grand Finale of the Contest will be held on Tue, 25th September 2012 in the exciting Olympic city of LONDON at the campus of the University of West London, Eailing . All the 8 Finalists from the 8 Cities will be flown in by IIHM from DELHI to LONDON and the entire cost of the trip including travel, accommodation and all meals and sightseeing tours except the Visa Fees would be borne by IIHM. (Cost of travel to and from Delhi will have to be borne by the Participants. Also any other family members that wish to accompany, will have to bear all of their own costs of travel, accommodation, food etc) The WINNER of the YOUNG CHEF INDIA SCHOOLS 2012 will be awarded a glittering TROPHY and a CASH PRIZE of 5 LACS. The 1st Runners Up would be awarded a Runners Up Plate and a Cash Prize of 1 LaC . All Winning students in the Finals will be given certificates and gift hampers. Happy Cooking !! All the Best.
