Crystal Meditation

By James Sargeant Meditation is an age old technique, used by cultures world wide, to bring peace & harmony to the mind and to awaken the deeper consciousness within us all. Through meditation, we can gain access to our sub-conscious mind and inner knowing. We can journey through different realms of reality and meet the many wonderful beings who exist there. We can find answers to problems that our conscious mind cannot work out and find understanding where before there may have been confusion. Meditation also has medical and health benefits. It is now recognized as being able to reduce stress, tension, and anxiety; and it is now becoming more common for people to be recommended meditation by their Doctors, GPs, and Psychologists. It is important when meditating to create a mood within the room you are going to meditate in. Lighting candles, burning oils or incense, and playing soft gentle meditation or nature music is a simple way to create a peaceful ambiance. Turn of the phone and ensure you wont be disturbed. You can lie down or you can sit, as long as you are comfortable. Make sure your legs and arms arent crossed, as this crosses the energy flow of your body. The simplest form of meditation is through breath work. By breathing deeply, slowly filling the lungs and holding for a moment before exhaling, we can create a shift in our minds that allows us to enter the mediative state. Clearing the mind of any thoughts or mental clutter, allow a sense of peace and stillness to fill you. If you notice your mind begins following a path of thought, gently bring it back to focusing on the peace and stillness. This can take some practise to maintain, but with persistence you will find it gets easier. Visualization is also helpful. Imagine yourself floating in white light, as you breathe in allow the light to enter your body, filling you. Feel it enter your body, absorbing into your muscles, organs, bones and flesh. Fill yourself so completely with light that all you see is light, through, within and around you. You can also visualize yourself to be in a place of nature that you love; somewhere that to you brings peace and stillness, whether it is the ocean, the forests, or the mountains.

Crystals are a wonderful and powerful ally in meditation. They amplify our connection to Source, and facilitate deeper connections to our inner selves. They can also act as a useful tool for focus and aid in concentration. A favourite meditation of mine, one that I have used since I was quite young, is the Crystal Diva Meditation. Being living energies, there exists within each crystal a seed of conscious awareness. This awareness is what we call the Diva. Through meditation, you can meet with the Diva of your crystal, effectively communicating with the crystal in an intuitive way to help you understand the messages and healing the crystal holds for you and why it has come into your hands. Meeting with the Diva is a wonderful way to build a personal relationship with your crystals, and will also help you in being able to intuitively recognise the crystals energies.

Begin by holding the crystal in the centre of your left hand and place the right hand over the crystal. If you are working with a crystal point, place it so that the base is in the centre of the palm with the point running along the middle finger towards the tip. Hold your hands over your heart as if in prayer. Breathe deeply, allowing Light to fill you as mentioned above. Once you are surrounded by and filled with light, focus your mind on the crystal in your hands. As you take each breath in, imagine light flowing from your heart into the crystal. See the crystal expanding, growing larger until it is large enough for you to enter. Take note of any special features of the crystal that you may see, such as rainbows, rays of light, or patterns on or inside the crystal. See light pouring through the crystal, causing it to glow and radiate light. As the crystal fills with light, imagine the light begin to take the form of a Being. Allow this being to take on its own image; to show you itself. They may appear male or female, or even genderless. They may be old or young. They may not even appear as human. I have had many crystals with Dragon beings within, or Faerie. Allow a feeling of Love to flow from your heart towards the Being, and see them extend Love back towards you. Be aware of any feelings or impressions you may receive in this state, as they will give you indications to the message the Diva carries.

Within this space you can communicate with the Crystal. Introduce yourself; let the crystal get to know you as you are getting to know it. Ask why the crystal has come to you, what its message is, or what healing it carries for you and your life. Ask how the crystal wishes to work with you, whether you should carry it with you, or keep it beside the bed. Ask how it would like to be cleansed or charged. Allow your mind to be open to receive any messages you are being given. It may be that these messages will come through feelings, impressions, images, or colours. You may receive single words or whole sentences. If you find while in this state that a particular thought or situation keeps coming to mind, be aware of how the crystal can help with this. When you feel you are done, thank the crystal for its energy, its healing and its love. Imagine the being re-entering the crystal, merging with the light. Breathe deeply, focusing on your body. Become aware slowly of your body, your feet, your hands, your legs and your arms. Take a long deep breath, and allow yourself to come back to conscious awareness and awakened state.

The more you practice meditation, the easier it will become, and the stronger your connection to your inner mind will be. There is no limit to how often you can or should meditate, but it is good to try and set aside some time regularly to do so. There are many forms and ways to meditate, from the simple breath work above, to deep intense meditations such as the Buddhist Vipasnia. What ever form you use, the important thing is that you find peace and stillness within.
