DESIGN OF A STUDY ON SOCIAL NETWORKS AND THEIR IMPACT ON RECORDS AND INFORMATION MANAGEMENT

INTRODUCTION
Since the explosion of internet and communication technologies, social networking sites have been clichd terminologies in this world. Being a socialcharacter in all aspects, social networking is of utmost importance for everyone. It is used by millions of people around the world. The impact and the popularity of these social sites on Records and Information Management (RIM) is dealt in this research.

OBJECTIVES
This study is meant to focus on following areas: Provide an overview of Social networks. Identify the real or perceived issues that exist due to the generation gap. Identify specific characteristics that impact the RIM profession or professionals. List some of the legal considerations perceived to be emerging issues from using Social networks.

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
The research is intended to be done by a periodical analysis, say for a 15 month period. And following methods will be employed to gather data:

Survey. Participation on social networks. Media. Other research materials. Interviews. Analysis of statistical data.

THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK
Explanations on Overview and background of social networks. Issues influenced by generation gap. Areas of impact to Records and Information Management. Legal considerations arising with social networks.

DATA ANALYSIS
The analysis will be undertaken with an outlook to give a precise idea from the primary data collection. The composed data from various sources like interviews will be converted into pictorial representations.

CONCLUSION
The findings from this investigation will show that, social networks are communication and distribution mechanisms. They are being used by people from age 5-to-95 all around the world. An attempt will be made to prove that if the RIM professionals, do not establish the rules, classify the information, restrict access and train employees, more and more corporate knowledge will be available on Social Networking sites.
