right and wrong. Ethical Hierarchy: You can either have a translator readily available or decide to learn Spanish. If neither of these happens, you need to step down from that position. Ethical Principles: Section 1.01 Promote the well-being of the client. Section 10.7h Social Workers should not disclose confidential information to third party unless clients have authorized. Legal Duties: Document the call and keep the information given to you private. Conflict: You have been working with this couple for a while now. One of the partners probably feels like things are changing for the better. Once you received this information you would want to tell the other one coming from a personal stand point. You want what is in the best interest of the client, however, due to the confidentiality contract and they are not posing a threat to anyone, you are not allowed to inform the client of anything. Ethical Hierarchy: I would talk to the client who gave me a phone call about informing their partner of the situation, giving them suggestions about how to do this. I do not feel that person who was convicted of child sexual abuse and serves a 10-year prison sentence should be accepted into a social work degree program. Yes, social workers believe that every human has worth and value. However, when you go into the field of social work, you need to keep the client as top priority. The person who was convicted has already shown several values and principles divergent from the NASW code. For example, one value is dignity and worth of the person. Social workers respect the inherent dignity and worth of the person. He has already failed to do this because sexually abusing a child is not respecting the worth of that child. They have also shown a lack in integrity, he has not acted in a trustworthy manor. No you should not hire a male who cross dresses as a female. Unfortunately society has an idea of what normal is, and cross dressing does not fall into that. You need to keep the interest of the clients while making this decision. You do not want to offend any clients who come in. All of your workers should be professionally dressed and cross dressing is not professional. I have nothing against cross dressing. I just feel like you need to dress appropriate for your gender while you are at work. For example, I love to wear my pajamas, which are really short shorts, and a tank top. These pieces of clothing is how I identify myself on a regular basis, however, I am not going to show up to a professional job in booty shorts and a tank top that has my cleavage showing. I feel like this is the same concept. You can dress however you want on your own time, but while you are at work, you should remain within the standards of professionalism. You should inform your classmate that what she did was wrong. You should give them the chance to tell the professor themselves, if they do not, you should inform the professor of what has occurred. I feel you should do this because it is morally wrong to let someone get away with that. This paper could have involved research that could prepare you for your career. You need to actually learn the information. If you do not inform the professor of the situation, you have lost your integrity. Most likely though, I would tell the student that they were wrong for doing that. I would also tell them they should try to get the paper redone, with their own efforts put into it. Even though I know it would be necessary, I would not inform the professor myself. Reason being is it directly has nothing to do with me. Most people would feel like they were telling on the most popular student and would then be shunned from the group.

I would start off by introducing myself and inform them of the confidentiality policy. I would ask them if they understand the policy. Then I would ask a few basic questions first. Based off of their responses I would decipher how to relate to them. I would then use this information to connect them with pertinent company resources to best serve their needs.

6-4 (1-7) 1. So you are here because your husband forced you to come and he thinks you have a drinking problem. You feel he is the reason that you drink. 2. So you are nervous that you will fail the midterm because you are not sure what is going on since you have missed three days of class. 3. I understand that the children in the Sanchez case are at risk and you are disappointed that I did not follow up with the case. 4. You are wondering if my career field is a good match for me because you feel my views and comments are not aligned with most social workers. 5. You are angry because the family that you have worked so hard for are not helping themselves and you realize that your anger towards them may pose a problem. 6. You dont like your Mommys boyfriend because he hurts her and makes her cry. 7. Based on previous experience with social workers you do not believe I am not a good fit for your organization. 7-1 Potential themes or issues: 14 Year old daughter stayed out past curfew, returning with the smell of alcohol. Mrs. C and her husband recently divorced Who is Mrs. C referring to when she says she needs to sort problems out with this person first, and why does that take precedence over her daughter.

7-2 Questions I would ask or Information I would seek: 7-3 Questions or information I would seek: Should I show up to Mrs. Andersons home? What is the age of everyone in the family of seven? How long have they been migrant workers? What kind of services will they need? How can I get a hold of this family, (example, telephone number, email, address) Do they currently have a place to stay?

7-4

If I do, should I show up with law enforcement? Should I refer this to law enforcement and let them handle it from there? What does our agencies policy say about this?

First I would ask my coworker if he was planning on leaving soon and professionally explain to him that I was about to have a client come in and see if there was any way he could return later. If this was not possible, I would try to contact my client and inform him of the situation and see if there was a different place he would prefer to meet at, or if he wanted to reschedule. If my client said there was no issue with my coworker being in the room, I would plan on setting up near the two comfortable chairs. 7-5 If I had just found out that my son had AIDS I would feel devastated. I would feel helpless. I wouldnt know what to do, and there would be so many unanswered questions. I would want to know of any available resources and get as much information of AIDS as possible. 7-6 How do I feel about this? I am very unsettled. I do not see how someone can molest their child, let alone continue to do so for several years. This goes against my personal and religious views. Although this would be hard for me to confront, he is still a human being, and deserves a level of respect, as does everyone else. I would keep this is mind so that we would have a successful interview.

Summary Exercises 5. Preparatory Empathy: I would feel upset if I was accused of such a terrible thing, especially if it was about me molesting my girlfriends young daughter. I would be frustrated that I am being forced to take counseling courses that I dont feel are necessary because I have not done anything. Even though I am taking these sessions, I could still be receiving felony charges. Also I would be most upset because an accusation has caused my whole life to turn around in a matter of moments, forcing me to move out of my own home. Self-Exploration: How do I feel about this situation? I feel uneasy because how am I to know if he is really guilty or not. This is still an accusation; he has yet to be charged. I feel so strongly about sexual child abuse though, it is hard to not assume that he has molested this 13 year old girl. Centering: I would organize my thoughts in a journal. I would imagine myself in his shoes. What if I was wrongly being accused of sexually abusing a child? How would I feel? What if my social worker assumed I was guilty before they even met me, how would this affect the service I received? This would help me balance out my emotions and have a clear, open mind for the first meeting.

Preliminary Planning: o Engage in introductions o Identify the purpose and goals of the meeting o State the rules and policies of agencies and establish professional boundaries o Determine who all is involved o Figure out what caused the accusation o Explore risk and protective factors o Explore the clients quality of life o Establish a goal for the next meeting, explaining what is to come for the future meeting

8-1 (1 or 2) 1. I would introduce myself saying my name. Then I would inform her of my title and what exactly I specialized in. Then I would let her know what my agency does and how we could be of assistance for her 85 year old parent. 8-2 2. I would keep eye contact. I would make sure that she could see my lips as I spoke in a soft tone. I would also make sure that I was speaking slowly and clearly articulating my words. In-between I would verify that she was following and understanding everything I was telling her. Then I would make sure to listen extra hard to her response. I would go about introductions this way because I would want to make sure I was attentive to her needs. 8-3 2. First I would introduce myself to them, giving them my name, who I worked for, and what I specialize in. Then I would tell them that everything we spoke about what in confidence. Then I would tell them the situation. My role would be to get the legal matters out of the way. I would ask if anyone was here who could make the decision of keeping her on life support or not. Then I would have to follow with proper documentation. 8-4 2. First I would ask the daughter about her marijuana use. I would ask what has caused her to use this and what made her start drinking. Then I would ask the rest of the family how they felt about her using drugs and drinking alcohol. Then I would use her answers to continue on with more questions.

8-5 2. I would reintroduce myself by simply stating my name. Then I would inform her of my agencies policy. After that I would inform the client that everything we discuss will be confidential unless there is apparent harm to themselves or someone else. The only people who will have access to their information would be my coworkers, my supervisor, and I. If there was someone they would like to have access to their records outside of that, they could fill out a form. 8-6 1. First I would ask for background information. asking specific questions about the atmosphere of the house. My reasoning for this is because I would try to find out if maybe there are main distractions at the house keeping her from learning. I would ask Emily why she thought she was doing poorly in school. I would then ask Emily what she thought might help her succeed more.
