The students of LTS 2 HE-EF were divided into two groups and conducted their Literacy Training Service at RIC Putho Tungtungin, Los Baos, Laguna, under the supervision of Prof. Dhino Geges and Teacher Lisa of RIC Putho Tungtungin. On the first week, Group 1 handled 20 pupils ranging from 4 to 5 years old. The first lesson was a Review of Vowels and Consonant. Since it was just a review, the pupils were already familiar with the lesson. The pupils performed well in the seatwork as the teacher-pupil ratio was almost 1:1. Pupil attendance was good. The second week was the continuation of Review of Consonants and the Sounds of the Alphabet. The two groups helped each other with the discussion to help the pupils understand the lesson. Group 1 discussed the consonant while the Group 2 showed the pupils a video about the sound of the Alphabets. The video captured the interest of the pupils and the parents or guardians outside the room. The response was very good and the class participated well. On the third week, Group 1 introduced the Letter Blending C-V-C (T, N or G + T, N or G) to the pupils and Group 2 discussed the lesson. The lesson was quite complicated for the pupils, some students were already talking to their seatmates, some were hyperactive and not listening attentively, they showed lack of interest to the lesson. The pupils were not easily engaged in the discussion but they performed well during the seatwork as the set-up was almost 1:1 teacher-pupil ratio. For the fourth week, the topic was still Letter Blending C-V-C (M, D or P + vowel + M, D or P). Group 1 handled the discussion of the lesson. The Letter Blending topic was still complicated and the reaction of the pupils to the lesson was very similar to the 3rd week. The class did not engage in the discussion but performed well during their seatwork as the set-up was also 1:1 teacher-pupil ratio. The fifth week lesson is Reading Exercise of a short story. The children were interested with the story due to the pictures shown. The pupils were responding very well when questioned and hyperactive while the story is told. The pupils were very difficult to handle in the story telling discussion. There were times that the pupils were too hyperactive during the discussion and the facilitator needed to stop to get their attention. The sixth week is the continuation of the Reading Exercise of the short story with consonant blends discussion. The pupils were the same as of the fifth week. The pupils were hyperactive and did not respond with the teachers warning so the discussion was stopped to get their attention. The students were very difficult to handle in the lectures especially when the rest of the facilitators were no longer at their side. All the planned lessons started and finished through some extended time.
