WHERE:

WHEN: Wednesday, March 20th at 1:30 p.m. BACKGROUND: A stable, dependable water supply is a necessity for San Diegos growing community. It is imperative the region invests in local sources for a drought-proof water supply and reduces our dependence on less reliable and more costly imported water. Recycling water for potable use can be an important part of San Diegos water supply portfolio diversification that could prove to be one of the most cost-effective and environmentally-friendly options for the region. Four years ago, the City of San Diego began a "demonstration project" to show that advanced water treatment technologies can make water safe enough to augment our water supply. Implementing water reuse would do more than increase our local water supply. The project also would reduce the outfall at the Pt. Loma Wastewater Treatment Plant and potentially eliminate the need to upgrade the plant, saving ratepayers over $1 billion. The Water Reliability Coalition is a broad-based affiliation of environmental, consumer, business, labor, development, ratepayer and technical organizations that have come together to support exploration of Indirect Potable Reuse as a potential strategy to develop a safe, reliable, sustainable & cost-effective local water supply.
