BRIEF: Logo choice: MPHTC, Michigan Public Health Training Centre I came up with three designs for the logo but eventually decided to do this one for the reason that this seemed elegant, practical and scalable for different purposes. The design retains back the image of the map which was a requirement by the organization. Thus, I used this map in all of my designs placing them at different positions and also using design elements like a circle around it. This current design has used the map in a very simple manner, thus easily recognizable and scalable. Colors: Since the organization is a Michigan based organization and the logo includes a map, I thought about two obvious colors for it- Maze and blue. I tried using Maze in my other design options but for this one I opted to keep just blue and to play around with the different shades of it. Thus, my color palette type is Monochromatic, with shades of blue and also with some changes in its opacity/transparency levels. I also used some design patterns for the picture of the map and also in a different object (rectangle) placed below the name of MPHTC. Typography: I used the font type as Adobe Caslon Pro. For the full name of the organization, I used it with a dark blue shade. For the short name, I used it with some strokes to give it some different effect. Also, this typeface seemed very relevant, one because when I was designing other logo options, I came up with doing one of the letter, M (capital) to a very large size and I was skeptical if any type face would support that or not. But, when I searched for different typeface, the Adobe Caslon Pro was able to support even larger font size and also could be used in the type of bold, italic or regular. This typeface according to me is simple yet readable, and especially when using for acronyms or short forms like MPHTC, when its necessary that it should be clearly readable by the audience without having the trouble to stare at it and then able to read it. Design Process: For phase one, I studied the organizations webpage. I took note of what the organization is about, what all they do, what are the events that keep happening on their website. Then I took a closer look at the logo and studied it to understand what all the organization has focused on. This gave me a way to get started with my design process. Then, I also took a look at the similar/competitor organizations to know their ideas about logos and what these organizations did differently than MPHTC. Thus, after doing all this research I came up with three design logos. I played with some colors and decided on the typeface. I then finalized one of my design choices and came up with a little manipulation to it, in terms of the design element. At this stage, I decides to use a background image related to health services. So initially I had used the image of a man running along with some veins with him in the picture. After putting this as the background of my logo, the logo became too complicated. I then thought to either get rid of it or use it as a design element. Finally, I flipped the picture to it mirror image and scaled it down to a very small size and used it as a design element of the logo, inside the map. I took a while to decide as to what to do with the element but then this is what I came up with as it didnt make the logo complicated and also it gave a different look to the map instead of keeping it plain.
