Psalm 66 After submitting our application to Flying Mission Services in Gaborone, Botswana in southern Africa, we are excited to share with you that we have been accepted to work with them! They have asked us to join them the beginning of June. FMS began in the 70s with traditional mission aviation/ medical work but as the country expanded and developed this type of flying was not necessary and the organization divided into two parts: Flying Mission Services works commercially for the country of Botswana generating income through air ambulance/ medical evacuation, charter flights, and aircraft maintenance. They are a self-supported, tent-making ministry that funds Flying Mission Care and also provides subsidized flights for missionaries in other organizations.

HIV/AIDS in Botswana
~ 2nd highest rate of HIV in the world ~ 25% of people ages 1550 are HIV positive ~ 100,000 estimated orphans under age 17

~ 5,000 deaths a year Flying Mission Care works on the ground with HIV/AIDS adults and out of a population of 2 orphans. As AIDS affects every aspect of life for a community from million caring for children left without parents, caring for adults who are ill and unable to provide for the family, to emotional and spiritual aspects. FMCs goals are to provide hope through home based car e for the sick/dying, to give orphans care within churches and their communities, to prevent AIDS through education, and to enable churches to care for those in their midst with AIDS.

Despite the trials and difficulties of the last few months, God has been faithful. He has shown us His loving kindness, encouraged us, and given us the desires of our hearts to serve overseas. We are stepping out in faith, trusting that God will continue to provide as we finish school, sell our household things, and make this move to Africa. Our commitment to FMS is 3 years. Jacob will start with aircraft maintenance and later will work into flying part-time. Midwifery is legal in the country and at some point down the road I hope to be involved with maternal/ infant care. We are very excited and grateful for this opportunity to serve the Lord!
