Writing O: Write informative/explanatory texts in which they introduce the topic, use facts & definitions to develop points & provide a concluding statement. Prompt: Getting a good education is important because. M: Yesterdays flow map. Day 2 Write from the beginning p.170 P: TW model write explanations to reasons (to become another sentence) into flow map. SW then repeat on their flow map. See p. 170 Write From the Beginning. TW model closing sentence that tell their choice & reasons. SW then repeat on their flow map S will orally rehearse with at least 5 peers. A: participation Core Reading O: Acknowledge differences in the points of view of characters, including speaking in a different voice for each character when reading dialogue aloud M: Playing with Paper wksht., highlighter OR crayon P: TW pass out the wksht and ask S to highlight all the quotation marks they see in the passage. TW assign S partner to read the passage with- practicing voice changes for different characters. TW monitor partners as they practice. WG will then read aloud the passage and answer the questions that follow. Phonics/Spelling O: Decode words with common prefixes and suffixes M:spelling lists (ful, less) P:SW play Round the World . As S take turns, TW choose a suffix ful, less, & the first S to say a word using the correct suffix moves to next student. Words cannot be repeated. A: Participation Walk to Read Reading Groups/Daily Five O: By the end of the year, read and comprehend literature/informational texts in the grades 2-3 complexity band with scaffolding as needed M: leveled books P: TW work with small groups to reinforce skills within a text. Science O: Keep a record in a science notebook of observations and measurements taken over time (weather, moon cycle, life cycle) M: Moon Phases Worksheet, Blank sheet-to glue phases on, scissors, glue, Oreos (8 per student), sporks, napkins, Moon Phases Sheet-for Oreos P: TW review moon phases using Moon Phases Wksht. TW go over moon phases with S. SW then cut moon phases and glue them in the correct order onto blank paper. TW go over moon phases to make sure all students have the correct order. TW then pass out Oreo cookies, sporks, and napkins. TW explain rules of Oreo activity to S (1. Do not eat Oreos 2. Watch and follow all teacher directions 3. Only work with Oreos on napkins). TW model/explain how to open & scrape the frosting off of Oreos to make them look like the phases of the moon. T & S will make moon phases with Oreos and then place them on the correct spot on the Moon Phases Sheet. A: observation & participation
Math O: Partition circles and rectangles into two , three, & four equal shares, describe shares using the words halves, thirds, fourths, half of a whole, fourth of a whole, a third of whole etc. and describe the whole as two halves, three thirds & four fourths. nd M: Number Talk book, Fraction Review PPT (S drive<smart notebooks<2 grade<math<fractions<fraction review ppt), Fractions: Half, Third, Fourth wksht P: TW will use number talk as a warm up to get students minds working in terms of math and numbers. TW go over number talk with students WG. TW introduce thirds to the class by modeling how to partition a circle/rectangle into thirds on the board. SW have a chance to practice partitioning shapes on the board after T has modeled. TW show Fraction Review PPT to S. TW have student add the thirds strip to their Fraction Kits. SW complete Fractions: Half, Third, Fourth wksht with a partner. Play Cover Up Game with Fraction Kit if time. A: participation, wksht
