Andrewss & All Souls: It is now officially Spring and New Things are Happening!
7600 N Hereford Ave Portland, OR 97203 503-285-0631 www.AllSoulsPDX.org info@AllSoulsPDX.org
As many of you know, St. Andrew's Episcopal Church (founded in 1895 as a mission church) and All Souls (a one year old mission church) are now joined (as of February 2013) into one new mission parish of 'St. Andrew's and All Souls.' Our joining together is generating much new energy and new things are now happening in our ministry and mission. In short, a'trinity' of new things are taking place:Our church is being renewed. Our pantry is being revisioned. Our thrift store is being repurposed. My own background involves planting a new church in Seattle (now ten years old) called Church of the Apostles, starting a cafein Seattle and co-founding a non-profit arts corporation and arts center in Seattle. As part of church planting, I envisioned, launched and managed Church of the Apostles' first non-profit, storefront cafe called Living:Room. I then foundedthe 'Artwerks' non-profit and cofounded the Fremont Abbey Arts Center. We purchasedan old, closed church building and renovated it to serve both as a home for Church of the Apostles and a six-days-a week, full service, non-profit arts and community center serving the Fremont neighborhood and greater Seattle. I encourage you to use the Internet and read about these great communities Ive lead & curated in the recent past. I am now excited to engage similar parish church and neighborhood community building work with St. Andrew's and All Souls in north Portland.

Cafe Project
The third leg of our 'trinity of renewal' is the repurposing of our thrift store into a new neighborhood community cafe. The cafe will generate more income and new volunteers for Hereford House AND cultivate renewed human community and relationships across difference in our neighborhood. The new cafe will be both a 'third place' and a 'social enterprise.' A third place is 'an open and accessible gathering place outside of both home and work where diverse neighbors can meet for conversation and community building.' A 'social enterprise' is 'a business operated for community profit,' generating funds and bringing together neighbors around community causes.
