31/December/Every year : The Most Extravagant and Violent Night

by Nisaar Y. Nadiadwala (Notes) on Saturday, December 31, 2011 at 6:21am This is the only note which you may not need to read in detail as the topic itself is convincing and agreed upon. The 31st Night of the year happens to be the most obscene, extravagant, violent, intoxicted night of the year and it is sad that still people globally find it entertaining and celebrate it ! In real life none of the above mentioned bunch of uncivilized actions would be tolerated in the bye lanes and even the pubs of metropolitian cities , but 31st December is extempted Farm houses on the outskirts of Mumbai, Delhi ... are booked, five star hotels are booked, high-fi clubs are booked and small time actors and actresses who are famous for indecency are booked. There are New Year Eve tours in India, which were unheard before. Beautiful beaches of Goa are dirtied with thrown away alcohol bottles and used condoms scattered everywhere on the streets, and car parking zones.. Lewid dancers are paid astronomical amount to display vulgar dance. My Gujarati news paper has given a good note on the changing habits of Gujratis in celebrating new year. Alcohol is banned in Gujarat so the Gujaratis book Mumbai and Rajahastan paying any thing between 100 $ US to 1200 US $ . The most obscene part about these tours is that one can join only in couples. In Goa, there are Rave parties.. for those who dont know the term Rave party.. it is a gathering of the superlative lewd people who take drugs to dance whole night. Russian tourists have arrived in thousands to enjoy with the unemplyed bar girls of Mumbai who, other wise cannot work after 10 pm as per the law. The Rave parties fetch 500 US $ per participant. Cambodia and Thailand have put restrictions on such parties but Goa is prospering. For the thousands of Russians and rich Indians 31st December is a time for "sex, drink and drug toursim' A recent analysis of National Highway Traffic Safety Administration statistics shows that, by the time US finished ringing in the year 2008 (the latest year for which data are available), 59 people had died in alcohol-related traffic crashes in the 12-hour span between 6:00 p.m. on New Year's Eve and 5:59 a.m. the next morning. Two weeks later, on the same night of the week, the death toll dropped to 13. (SOURCE National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcohol) My newspaper assures me that the entire police department of Mumbai will be on the road on this 31st Night. Yet I along with other millions of Mumbaites, am skeptic if these few thousands of cops can control a multiple times more intoxicated crowd driving, walking and behaving in a rash manner? There is a well known phrase in Urdu.. Begani shaadi mein Abdullah diwana...(A common passerby will join and dance in any marriage procession without even knowing who the groom is!) This is how new year is celebrated every where across the world including Muslim nations. Nobody dares to challenge or questions the merit of this celebration. It seems as if the entire thinking and descision making process of the masses had been bought up by the marketeers. Nobody know what fun is there in wild celebrations. As the Qur'an rightly puts it : But most of them follow nothing but fancy....Surah Yunus ch 10: 36
