Installation
Installation in Windows
ToinstallthemicroSTATIONEditorandthemicroSTATIONPlugInEditorintoWindowsXP,
WindowsVista,orWindows7proceedasfollows.
IfyouwanttoconnectthemicroSTATIONtoyourcomputerviaUSBandusethemicroSTATION
EditorandthemicroSTATIONPlugInEditor,youmustinstalltheKorgUSBMIDIDriver.(Refer
totheUSBMIDISetupguidefordetailsonhowtoinstalltheKorgUSBMIDIDriver.)

Inserttheincludedaccessorydiscintoyourcomputersdiscdrive.
NormallythemicroSTATIONApplicationInstallerwillstartupautomatically.
Ifyourcomputerissetsotheinstallerdoesnotrunautomatically,doubleclick
KorgSetup.exeontheaccessorydisc.

Fromthelist,selecttheapplicationsthatyouwanttoinstall,andclick[Install].

Theapplicationsyouselectedwillbegintheinstallationprocess.

Editor.

Whenyouvefinishedinstallingalltheselectedsoftware,closetheinstaller.

Installing the microSTATION Editor / Plug-In Editor

ThemicroSTATIONEditor/PlugInEditorInstallerwindowwillappear.
Selectandinstallalldesiredcomponents,suchas,theEditor(Standalone),PlugInEditor
(VST),and/orPlugInEditor(RTAS).
Forexampleifyouwanttoinstallthestandaloneversion,click[InstallStandalone
Application].

ThemicroSTATIONEditorscreenwillappear.Click[Next>].

TheWelcometothemicroSTATIONEditorsetupwizardscreenwillappear.Click[Next>].

click[Next>].

TheLicenseagreementwillappear.Carefullyreadthecontents,andifyouagree,checkI
acceptthetermsofthelicenseagreementandclick[Next>].

TheSelectinstallationfolderscreenwillappear.Choosethelocationanduser(s)forwhich
youwanttoinstallthesoftware,andclick[Next>].

IfyoudontwanttoinstalltheVSTpluginversionorRTASpluginversion,click[ExitSetup]
toendtheinstallation.
Whenyouvefinishedinstallingtheapplication(s)youwant,click[ExitSetup]toexitthe
installer.

ToinstallthemicroSTATIONEditorandmicroSTATIONPlugInEditorintoMacOSX,usethe
followingprocedure.
YoumustinstalltheKORGUSBMIDIDriverifyouwanttoconnectthemicroSTATIONto
yourcomputerviaUSBandusethemicroSTATIONEditororthemicroSTATIONPlugIn
Editor.(FordetailsoninstallingtheKORGUSBMIDIDriver,refertotheUSBMIDISetup
guide.)

StartuptheinstallerbydoubleclickingonmicroSTATIONEditorInstaller.pkglocatedin
themicroSTATIONEditorfolderoftheaccessorydisc.

DependingontheversionofyourMacsoperatingsystem,aconfirmationdialogboxmay
appearatthispoint.Ifrequired,pleaseenteryourpasswordandclick[OK].
Whentheinstallerstartsup,thefollowingscreenwillappear.Click[Continue].

Dependingontheversionofyouroperatingsystem,youmightseeadialogboxstatingYour
computermustberestartedafterinstallation.Click[Continueinstallation]tobeginwiththe
installation.

Whentheinstallationhasbeensuccessfullycompleted,click[Restart]toexittheinstaller.
YoucantconnecttwoormoremicroSTATIONunitstoasinglecomputerandusethem
simultaneously.

Note: UnderMacOSX,thepluginversionwillalsobeinstalledintheappropriatefolder.

Setup

IfyouwanttousethemicroSTATIONEditorwiththemicroSTATIONconnectedtoyour
computerviaUSB,youmustmakesurethatyouvefinishedinstallingandsettingupthe
KORGUSBMIDIDriverbeforeyoustartupthemicroSTATIONEditor.

UseaUSBcabletoconnectthemicroSTATIONsUSBconnectortotheUSBportofyour
computer.

InthemicroSTATIONsGlobal/Mediamode,makesurethatMIDIFilterSysExison.(The
factorysettingisoff.)

IfyouturnofftheMIDIFilterSysExsettingofthemicroSTATIONitselfafterstartingupthe
microSTATIONEditor,themicroSTATIONandthemicroSTATIONEditorwillbecomeunable
tocommunicate.Likewise,loadingthepreloaddataintothemicroSTATIONwillcausethe
MIDIFilterSysExtobeturnedoff(thefactorysetting),meaningthatthemicroSTATION
andthemicroSTATIONEditorwillbecomeunabletocommunicate.Ifthisoccurs,youllneed
toturnthemicroSTATIONsMIDIFilterSysExsettingbackon.

StartupthemicroSTATIONEditorandverifythatitsfunctioningcorrectly.

Starting up the microSTATION Editor
Youcanstartuptheeditorbyclickingthetaskbar[Start]button[AllPrograms]andthen
pointingtoKORGmicroSTATIONmicroSTATIONEditor.
Alternatively,navigatetotheKORGfoldermicroSTATIONfolder,anddoubleclickthe
microSTATIONEditor.exeicon.
TheKORGfolderisinthelocationyouselectedduringinstallation.Bydefaultitsinthe
ProgramFilesfolder.

Mac OS X
Starting up the microSTATION Editor
NavigatetotheApplicationsfolderKORGfoldermicroSTATIONfolder,anddouble
clickthemicroSTATIONEditoricon.

Setting up the microSTATION Plug-In Editor


IfyouwanttousethemicroSTATIONEditorwiththemicroSTATIONconnectedtoyour
computerviaUSB,youmustmakesurethatyouhavefinishedinstallingandsettingupthe
KORGUSBMIDIDriverbeforeyoustartupthemicroSTATIONEditor.

adjustthesettingssothatitwillfunctioncorrectly.

About the microSTATION Plug-In Editor


ParameterdataissentandreceivedbetweenthemicroSTATIONPlugInEditorandthe
microSTATION.Unliketypicalplugininstruments,themicroSTATIONPlugInEditordoesnot
produceanaudiosignal.
YourmicroSTATIONwilloutputaudiosignalswhenthemicroSTATIONPlugInEditorsendsit
MIDImessages.
IfyouwanttosendthemicroSTATIONsaudiosignaltoanaudiotrackofyourhostapplication
anduseitinconjunctionwithaplugineffectetc.,refertoUsingyourhostapplicationtocontrol

Globalmodesettingsaremaintaineduntilyouclosetheapplication,butyourchangeswillbelost
whenyouclosetheapplication.IfyouusetheutilitycommandWriteGlobalsetting,orclickthe
[DUMP]buttonlocatedintheupperrightsideofeachpageinGlobalmode,thecurrentsettings

Drumkit
TheDrumKitpageallowsyoutoselectthedrumsampleforeachkey,aswellasvisuallyedit
numerousparametersthatspecifyhoweachdrumsamplewillbesounded.

Arpeggiator
Thearpeggiatorisafunctionthatautomaticallyproducesarpeggios(brokenchords).The
microSTATIONEditorletsyouedittheparametersofthemicroSTATIONs(maximumof)two
arpeggiatorsineachmode(PROG,COMBI,SEQ),editarpeggiopatternsinGLOBALmode,
andalsotoviewthesettingsofthefourknobsinrealtime.Thearpeggiopatterneditscreen
letsyoueditthearpeggiopatternwhileyoulistentothephrase.

Functions specific to the editor

Total Recall & Data Sync Settings

Hereyoucanspecifytheeditordatathatwillbesavedandloadedaspartofthesongdatabyyour
DAWsoftware.Thissettingletsyousaveonlythedatathatyouneed.WhenthemicroSTATION
Editorstartsup,thetypesofdatathatyouvecheckedherewillalsobeloadedautomaticallyfrom
themicroSTATIONthatsconnectedtoyourcomputer.(Inotherwords,thisdatawillbe
synchronized.)
Sinceadatadumprequiresacertainamountoftime,youmaywishtoshortenthestartuptimeby

USB connection
If you lose data synchronization with the microSTATION when starting up
the editor, please check the following points.
IfyoureusingUSBMIDI,youmustusetheKORGUSBMIDIDriver.Thedefaultdriver
providedbytheoperatingsystemmayhaveanextremelyslowdatatransferrate,ormaynot
communicatecorrectly.
IfyoureusingaUSBhub,tryconnectingthemicroSTATIONdirectlytoaUSBportonthe
computeritselftoseewhetheritwillwork.YoucanalsotryremovingallotherconnectedUSB
devicesexceptforthemicroSTATION.
Whenyoulosedatasynchronization,pleaseperformtheReceiveAllorTransmitAll
functionintheEditorsUTILITYmenuinordertosynchronizethedatabetweentheeditor
andthehardware.

About the USB port where you connect the microSTATION (Windows only)
ThemicroSTATIONsUSBportisUSB1.1,butiftheUSBportofyourcomputeritselfsupports
USB2.0,youmaybeabletoincreasetheUSBdatatransmissionratedependingonhowyou
makeconnections.
Insomecases,connectingthemicroSTATIONdirectlytoaUSBportofthecomputeritselfmay
slowdownthedatatransferspeed.Ifso,connectthemicroSTATIONviaaUSB2.0hubrather
thandirectlytothecomputer.ThismayincreasetheUSBdatatransferspeed.
