Finished Size: Yarn:

Small: 9" long x 3" wide, (medium: 1112" x 414", large: 1214" x 434"). Mitten shown in medium.

Halcyon Victorian 2-ply Wool (100% wool; 325 yd [298 m]/312 oz [100g]; ): #322 (light blue, A), #349 (dark blue, B), and #105 (yellow, C); one skeineach. Size E/4 (3.5 mm) Tunisian hook. Adjust hook size if necessary to obtain correct gauge.

Finished Size Small: 9" long x 3" wide, (medium: 1112" x 414", large: 1214" x 434"). Mitten shown in medium. Yarn Halcyon Victorian 2-ply Wool (100% ): wool; 325 yd [298 m]/312 oz [100 g]; #322 (light blue, A), #349 (dark blue, B), and #105 (yellow, C); one skein each. Hook Size E/4 (3.5 mm) Tunisian hook. Adjust hook size if necessary to obtain correct gauge. Notions Yarn needle; st marker (m). Gauge 17 sts and 14 rows = 4" in tss.

Notes Smallest size will only use 2 reps of the cross-stitch patt. Mitten Panel (make 4) With A, fdc 13 (19, 21) (see Glossary). Row 1: FwP: Pick up lp in blo of 2nd fdc from hook and each fdc across; RetP (see Glossary)13 (19, 21) lps. Rows 230 (37, 40): Tss across (see Glossary); RetP. Rows 3135 (3842, 4145): Tss2tog (see Glossary), tss to last 3 sts, tss2tog, tss in last st; RetP3 (9, 11) lps.

Row 36 (43, 46): Tunisian BO (see Glossary). Marking 2 panels for top of mittens and 2 for palms.

Thumb (Make 2) Fsc 8 (see Glossary). Row 1: Pick up lp in first fsc and each fsc to last fsc, pick up 2 lps in last fsc; RetP11 lps. Rows 25: M1 (see Glossary), tss to last st, M1, tss in last st; RetP19 lps. Size medium only: Row 6: Tss across; RetP.

Size large only: Rows 67: Tss across; RetP. All sizes: Rows 610 (711, 812): Tss2tog, tss to last 3 sts, tss2tog, tss in last st; RetP9 lps. Row 11 (12, 13): Tunisian BO. Finishing Block pieces. With B and C work crossstitch patt on top panel, foll photo for color placement. Lay top panel on hand and mark placement of thumb. With RS tog, whipstitch (see Glossary) top and bottom panels tog to thumb placement. With RS facing, whipstitch Rows 111 (12, 13) of thumb tog. Whipstitch rem unworked sts to front and back panels, and finish whipstitching front and back panels tog. Turn RS out.

Foundation Single Crochet (fsc) Start with a slipknot on hook, chain 2 (Figure 1), insert hook in 2nd chain from hook, pull up loop, yarn over, draw through 1loop (the chain, Figure 2), yarn over and draw through 2loops (the single crochet), 1 single crochet with its own chain stitch (shaded) at the b ottom (Figure 3), *insert hook under 2loops of the chain stitch ( shaded) of last stitch and pull up loop, yarn over and draw through 1 loop, yarn over and draw through 2 loops, repeat from * for length of foundation (Figure5).

Glossar y Tunisian Make 1 inc (M1) Insert hook in space between next 2 vertical bars (unless otherwise noted), pull up loop. Tunisian Simple Stitch (tss) Tss forward pass (FwP): *Insert hook from right to left behind front vertical bar (Figure 1), yarn over and pull up loop (Figure2), leave loop on hook; repeat from * to last vertical bar at edge, pick up front and back loops of last bar to create firm edge; return pass. Return pass (RetP): Yarn over and draw through first loop on hook, *yarn over and draw through 2 loops on hook (Figure 3); repeat from * to end, ending with 1 loop on hook. Tunisian Simple Stitch Two Together (tss2tog) Insert hook under next 2 vertical bars, yarn over, pull up loop.

Whipstitch With right side of work facing and working through edge stitch, bring threaded needle out from back to front along edge of piece.
