APPARATUS: Neon Flash Bulb

A neon lamp (also neon glow lamp) is a miniature gas discharge lamp that typically contains neon gas at a low pressure in a glass capsule. Only a thin region adjacent to the electrodes glows in these lamps, which distinguishes them from the much longer and brighterneon tubes used for signage. The term "neon lamp" is generally extended to lamps with similar design that operate with different gases.

Resistance
Resistance is the opposition that a substance offers to the flow of electric current. It is represented by the uppercase letter R. The standard unit of resistance is the ohm, sometimes written out as a word, and sometimes symbolized by the uppercase Greek letter omega. When an electric current of one ampere passes through a component across which a potential difference (voltage) of one volt exists, then the resistance of that component is one ohm.

Condenser
Device for reducing a gas or vapour to a liquid. Condensers are used in power plants to condense exhaust steam fromTURBINEs and in REFRIGERATION plants to condense refrigerant vapours, such as AMMONIA and FREONs. The petroleum and chemical industries use condensers for hydrocarbons and other chemical vapours. In DISTILLATION, a condenser transforms vapour to liquid. All condensers work by removing heat from the gas or vapour. In some, the gas passes through a long tube of heat-conductive metal, such as copper (usually arranged in a coil or other compact shape), and heat escapes into the surrounding air. Large industrial condensers use water or some other liquid to remove the heat. The term condenser also refers to a device attached to carding machines in textile factories to collect fibres into roving for spinning machines.

Stop watch
A stopwatch is a handheld timepiece designed to measure the amount of time elapsed from a particular time when activated to when the piece is deactivated. A large digital version of a stopwatch designed for viewing at a distance, as in a sports stadium, is called astopclock.

Power pack
(Engineering / Electrical Engineering) a device for converting the current from a supply into direct or alternating current at the voltage required by a particular electrical or electronic device

Theory Capacitance
A capacitor is an electronic component used for storing charge and energy. The usual capacitor is a pair of plates. When a steady voltage is applied across a capacitor, a charge +Q is stored on one plate while -Q is stored on the opposite plate. The amount of charge is determined by the capacitance C and the voltage difference V applied across the capacitor:

Since the charge can not change instantaneously, the voltage across a capacitor can not change intantly either. Thus capacitors can be used to guard against sudden losses of voltages in circuits, among other uses we will study later. Capacitance is measured in farads. One farad (f) equals one coulomb per volt.

Switch
A device for making and breaking the connection in an electric circuit

Circuit
A closed path through which an electric current flows or may flow. Circuits in which a power source is connected to two or more components (such as light bulbs, or logic gates in a computer circuit), one after the other, are called series circuits. If the circuit is broken, none of the components receives a current. Circuits in which a power source is directly connected to two or more components are called parallel circuits. If a break occurs in the circuit, only the component along whose path the break occurs stops receiving a current.
