Engine Transmission Rear axle

A driveline consisting of the Volvo D13C engine, Volvo I-Shift transmission and Volvo RS1228C rear axle provides first-class fuel efficiency and driveability for tourist, intercity and long-distance route operations. The new 13-litre engine is available with power outputs of 420, 460 or 500* hp in Euro 5 configuration.

PRODUCT BENEFITS First-class driveability. The Volvo D13C offers high torque across a broad rev range. In combination with the Volvo I-Shift automatic gearchanging system and a well-matched rear axle, the result is a driveline that provides excellent driveability. Low fuel consumption. A fuel-efficient engine, optimised gearchanges and minimal frictional losses throughout the driveline result in highly competitive fuel consumption. Low environmental impact. The low fuel consumption contributes to low emissions of carbon dioxide. Optimised combustion cuts emissions of particulates. Exhaust gas after-treatment using SCR technology reduces emissions of nitrogen oxides.

Transmission. The Volvo I-Shift is a 12-speed manual gearbox with an automated gearchanging system that optimises gearshifts under all operating conditions. The result is high shift quality, excellent driving comfort and low fuel consumption. I-Shift combines the robust design of the manual gearbox with the convenience of automatic transmission. I-Shift changes gear swiftly with only brief interruptions in torque. It also offers a wide range of ratios, making it possible to maintain high average speeds. The gear selector is integrated into the drivers seat. Starting gear is selected automatically to suit the roads gradient and the vehicles weight. The Hill Start Aid function makes it easier to start off on a gradient, since the brakes automatically hold the coach in place until the engine builds up and delivers sufficient power to get the vehicle moving. I-Shift is available with a choice of several transmission programs, including one that allows switching between fully automatic gearchanges and manual gear selection, and a performance mode with kick-down function.
