History of Sulpicio Lines Corp. The founder Go Guioc So, more popularly known as Don Sulpicio Go, was a self-made man. He was an Amoy merchant who came to the Philippines with his brothers and sisters in 1919. With his brother, he set up base in Naval, Leyte. Starting with one 50-ton sailboat, the brothers would bring their goods to the neighbouring islands, going as far as Samar. Sailing would later on open possibilities for shipping. Don Sulpicio Go became General Manager of Carlos A. Gothong Shipping Lines in 1946. He became a managing partner of the company in 1953 and by the 1960s steered it to the top of the shipping industry. In 1973, he decided to venture on his own. He founded Sulpicio Lines with his sons, starting with a fleet of 17 vessels, 1 tugboat and 5 barges (total tonnage=16,936). Over 40 years of sailing experience helped him to make the most stable decisions for the company's benefit. Encouraging full participation of his sons, he instilled values of loyalty, dedicated service, fairness and honesty in all dealings. He was known to often be the first to arrive and the last to leave the office. His example of hard work inspired other people in the organization to do the same. As a philanthropist, he extended help to institutions like the Emergency Rescue Unit Foundation, which provides emergency medical care and prompt assistance to citizens, and the Filipino-Chinese Fire Brigade, a Cebu-based response group known for its swift response to fire emergencies. He also believed that education was crucial to an individual's success and gave away many scholarships to underprivileged but deserving students. His efforts are being continued to date, this time by the next generation of Sulpicio Lines scions. Sulpicio Lines later on branched out to other shipping-related industries such as copra trading, general merchandising, fabrication and repair, trucking and towage. All these subsidiaries were put up to complement its core business, shipping, and to facilitate movement for staff and clients alike. Sulpicio Marketing, for instance, relieves Filipino copra farmers of their transportation burden. It serves as their channel to the oil mills, facilitating the growth of the copra industry as well as making it more efficient for oil mills to source their raw materials. Over the years, challenges beset the company, but taking from its founder's trademark perseverance, Sulpicio Lines bounced back to rank among the top companies in the country's shipping industry.

Now among the top earners in a capital-intensive industry, the company serves nearly all ports in the country. Its total tonnage of over 114,000 is a seven-fold increase from its original tonnage, and its offices and operations have already branched out into all key cities in the Philippines. Its offices and agencies enjoy a nationwide presence with over 2,500 employees.

Mission of Sulpicio Lines Corp. This mission is to affect economic progress through inter-island shipping and provide services that constantly meet customers needs and expectations. Sulpicio lines Inc. is the first domestic shipping company that has been audited by two of the external auditors. Accredited by Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA); the Bureau Veritas of Paris and the Bureau Veritas Quality International of London. Both have certified that the company's Safety Management Code (ISM) and International Quality Assurance Management Standard (ISO 9002-1994), respectively. Each of the company's luxury liners has superb facilities that offer utmost comfort and convenience to passengers as well as efficient handling or cargo to and from points of destination. The organization banks on the wealth of its experience and strength of its commitment. Indeed an experienced mariner, tossed, battered and torn at certain points, the company rises, a learned survivor and stands firm on a foundation of reliable resources and the conviction to go on answering te needs of sea transport. Presently, the company is serving 26 major ports of call, namely: Bacolod, Baybay, Butuan, Cagayan de Oro, Calubian, Catbalogan, Cebu, Cotabato, Dadiangas, Davao, Dipolog, Dumaguete, Estancia, Iligan, Iloilo, Jagna, Maasin, Manila, Masbate, Ormoc, Ozamis, Puerto Princesa, Surigao, Tacloban, Tagbilaran, and Zamboanga. Truly, a fulfilment to its commitment of excellence in providing necessary links among that different island in the archipelago. Sulpicio Lines we span the seas, we bridge the island we bring you there.

Vision of Sulpicio Lines Corp. Due to the archipelagic nature of the Philippines, an effective sea transport system plays a very significant and cruel role in the economy. Interisland shipping is still the single most impoertant and costeffective means of transporting the majority of our goods and people. Sulpicio Lines, Inc., envisions to actively participate in the achievement of economic progress by making presently remote areas easily accessible from our major ports. Sulpicio Lines, Inc., sees the pouring of goods and people from the major ports and into these less viable routes as a means of bringing real development to the countryside. Sulpicio Lines is one of the largest inter-island shipping companies in the Philippines with 16 passenger/cargo vessels, 10 cargo container vessels, 3 tugboats and 3 barges. The company envisions ushering a new era for domestic shipping that focuses on higher levels of quality standards for the benefit of the sea-going public and shippers, the company and its people, and the domestic shipping industry as a whole.

CHAPTER I PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND

INTRODUCTION

A Dual Wide Area Network (WAN) Router is a device with two WAN ports; this router simply makes it possible for an organization or individual to have two broadband technologies (cable, DSL, and satellite). There are many advantages to this network set up incliding; redundancy factor which ultimately raises online access reliability, improved speed and performance can boost as well.

The Dual WAN ports also provide a failover response mechanism; if one internet connection goes down the other automatically takes control to ensure continuous network uptime. From that point of view dual router goes an important service. It is made the switching-over process so that the user does not even realized that one of the connection is down. Since the computer is always connected to the internet, there is no connectivity problem for the user.

Background of the Study

Sulpicio Lines Corp. Tondo Branch located at Princess Terminal, Pier 12, North Harbour Manila City is one of the franchise outlets of Sulpicio Lines Corp. It has been in operation since 1985. The reliable non-stop always active internet connection is one of the main functions for the continuity of their business. The company has one Internet Service Provider which is Philippine Long Distance Telephone (PLDT). Sudden loss and slow down of connection from their main ISP is one of their problem.

Significance of the Study The study is about upgrading the current networking system of the Sulficio Lines Corp. Tondo branch by replacing the single Wide Area Network (WAN) router with the DUAL WAN router. The significance of the study is: For the company, the process of their transaction will accelerate. For the company, their employees will not interrupt in work due to slow down or sudden loss of connection. For the researchers, this study will be a guide for them in creating much valuable research.

Statement of the Problem Unhindered connectivity and fast access internet connection is the source of transaction of the company to make their business at bay and satisfy the demands and needs of their customer. The company has a single Internet Service Provider (ISP) connection and their main problem is the sudden loss and slow down of internet connection. Thus, the company does not have a backup to automatic alternate to have a continuous connection.

General Objectives This study aims to provide a backup to maintain a non-stop and uninterrupted internet connection for Sulficio Lines Corp. Pier 12, North Harbour, Manila Branch.

Specific Objectives 1. To provide a back-up or another Internet Service Provider (ISP) connected in one device 2. To eliminate failure, and to prevent network congestion 3. To expedite the transactions of the company Scope and Limitation Scope Dual Wide Area Network (WAN) Router is a device with two (2) Ethernet jack enable to connect your internet provider. This device has different features that will be help in the on-line transaction of SULFICIO LINES CORP. It has a load balancer. The Dual WAN load balancing avails two broadband connections aggregating the bandwidth. The internet traffic load handled with both the links in active state. Automatic failover or backup only one wan link stays active and is considered primary. When the primary wan connection fails, the alternative connection automatically takes over the control of the network and proceeds with the operations.

Limitation The Dual Wide Area Network (WAN) Router is a device that can be use by small and large companies that depends their operation on fast and uninterrupted internet connection. This device does not have an always active internet connection especially if both ISP have a failure connection due to bad weather conditions.

Hypothesis Dual Wide Area Network router is highly ideal solution for the company. Dual WAB Router had different features. One of its features includes outbound load balancing and inbound load balancing which helps manage data boosting performance. It also have a two Ethernet jack which you will connect your ISP. It will also avoid time consuming way of switching into new ISP when sudden problem occur because Dual WAN Router will automatically turn on the other ISP for the continuity of internet connection.

Definition of Terms Aggregation a group or mass of distinct things gathered into, or considered as, a total or whole. Bandwidth in digital terms, the capacity of a connection to transmit data, expressed as data speed in bits per second (bps), thousands of bits per second (kbps) or Millions of bits per second (Mbps). Broadband describes a high speed network connection (ISDN, DSL, Cable Modem, and T-1) as opposed to a dial-up modem connection which are allot slower. Computer an electronic machine which, by means of stored instructions and information, performs rapid, often complex calculation or compiles, correlates, and selects data. Congestion profusion, crowdedness, crowding, overcrowding, clogging, overpopulation, press, jam, traffic jam, bottleneck, gridlock, over development, too much, too many, excessive concentration, surfeit, blockage, stoppage, cramming, stuffing, obstruction, engorgement, hyperaemia. Cross Over cable this cable is the same as a network cable apart from the wiring which allows to Network devices (Usually 2 computers) to connect directly together. DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) high bandwidth internet connection over telephone lines. Firewall secured system passing and inspecting traffic via an internal trusted secure system network and an external secure server network that is entrusted, like the Internet Firewalls can be use to discover, prevent, or mitigate certain kinds of secure server network attack. This provides Internet security and online security. Internet an extensive computer network made up of thousands of other, smaller business, academic, and governmental networks. ISP (Internet Service Provider) companies that offer internet access to the subscriber. DSL Digital Subscriber Line. High bandwidth Internet connection over telephone lines. LAN (Local Area Network) a computer that spans a relatively small area. Most LANs are confined to a single building or group of buildings. A home network would be a LAN, the internet a WAN.

Mbps (Megabits per second) a measure of data transfer speed (a megabit is equal to one million bits). Network transmissions, for example, are generally measured in Mbps. Network - a system of two or more computers, terminals, and communication devices linked by wires, cables, or a telecommunication system in order to exchange data. The network may be limited to a group of users in a local area network, or be global in scope, as the internet is. Redundancy The state or quality of being redundant; superfluity. Switch a switch is a device used throughout a network that receives incoming data and determines the route for the date to travel in order to reach its intend destination. VPN Virtual Private Network a secure tunnel over the internet to connect remote officers or users to their companys network. WAN (Wide Area Network) a computer network that spans a relatively large geographical area. Typically, a WAN consists of two or more local area networks (LANs). Computers connected to a wide area network are often connected through public networks. Such as telephone system. They can be also connected to through leased lines or satellite.

CHAPTER II REVIEW OF RELATED STUDY

This chapter the researchers will discuss the study conducted an organization in relation to improving the failover system that will lessen the impact result of sudden loss of Internet connection to a business relying to internet.

Related Study The researcher has read the study made by the XRoad Networks in the internet, regarding the assistance that a company or an enterprise that relied on internet could achieve in conducting business. On their study the dual WAN Router could increase network reliability, bandwidth and responsiveness. Dual WAN Router is also kwon as load balancer it has the ability to aggregate two wide area connection in order to achieve greater reliability and overall throughput. It said that load balancing is a good method to continuous link of an organization to internet. The sudden drop of connection accompany will truly suffer a great loss in income. This will be a good reason why a company that relies on internet must use Dual Wan Router. Another benefit that a user could get from this kind of router is it made the switching-over process automatic so that the user does not even realize that one of the connection is down. Since the computer is always connected to the network, there is no connectivity problem for the user.

Theoretical Frameworks

The Dual Wan router made the automatic switching process of ISP connection; if the primary connection failed the backup ISP will immediately alternate to have a continuous internet connection.

Figure 3: Representation of Load Balancing Mode

Load Balancing: As per (above figure), we can make out the WAN setup with the dual wan router functioning as a load balancer. In this mode, both the wan connections stay active and load sharing between them based on the bandwidth. The dual wan load balancing avails two broadband connections aggregating the bandwidth overall. We can observe wan load balancing by the dual wan connections with one modem possessing high speed (cable modem) and other can be Digital Subscriber Line (DSL).The internet traffic load balancing handle with both the links (wan link 1 and wan link 2) showing active state.

Figure 4: Representation of Automatic Failover

Automatic Failover or backup, in this mode only one wan link stays active and is considered primary When the primary wan connection fails, the alternate connection automatically takes over the control of the network and proceeds with the operations. It avoid network disruption and collapse and maintain redundancy even at sudden disasters. Refer (above figure) for dual wan router working in automatic failover mode. So when one of the links fail, the status of the respective interface is down and immediately alternate links becomes active and traffic is passed through it.
