Ringgold County The county maintains no county zoning requirements and requires no building permits. New residential construction does need to comply with septic requirements. Ringgold County Public Health (641-464-0691) can provide assistance. New construction or building removals are to be reported to the county assessors office at 641-464-3233 to maintain accurate tax records. City of Mount Ayr Building applications are available at city hall. Applicants must fill out the application, complete with names of contractors and description and location of the project along with rough sketches, and return it to city hall with a $10 filing fee. The city zoning commissioner will inspect the site to evaluate set-backs from property lines and other details before approving the application. Permits are not required if the perimeter of a structure is not increased. In other words, a home owner may replace a deck without a permit as long as the deck does not increase in size. In addition, permits are not required for non-permanent structures such as storage sheds on skids. Sun Valley As a private community, Sun Valley has its own set of building requirements and restrictions.
