The calendar may say its springtime, but it certainly doesnt feel like it outside. Thankfully we still have many learning opportunities for the next few weeks to keep us bus. Options Available if You Have Questions or Disagree with a Decision of the School Families and schools have a "built-in" partnership with the child as the focus. This partnership will grow when families and school staff work together. Disagreements may happen, but working together improves your childs education. The Communication Options for Families document will help parents determine who they can talk to when questions and disagreements arise. What: Participants will learn about the elements of transition, receive an overview of the new Postsecondary Transition Plan (PTP) online program that school districts use, and will leave with resources and knowledge on how to develop a solid transition plan. Transition Resource Fair: Making Connections for Now & the Future
What: Transition services are intended to prepare students to move from the world of school to the world of postsecondary education and work. This FREE fair will provide information on transition services and trends locally and statewide and will include: Representatives from agencies and postsecondary education institutions; 20 minute topicrelated presentations; Open computer lab to review the PTP (Postsecondary Transition plan) with staff assistance. Events Around the State for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Theater Event for families: "Window Pains"
In celebration of National Autism Awareness Month, the Central Wisconsin Autism Society and Introspect Arts Theater Group, present "Window Pains." It is a production about a family with 2 children who are facing the disability of Autism and how they learn to gather strength from one another and realize that they are different from what is perceived of the normal world, yet they are special and much to offer as well. Young Athletes
What: All children ages 2 7 are invited to participate in this sports-play program that focuses on physical, cognitive and social development through activities like walking, running, balance, jumping, trapping, catching, throwing, kicking, striking & advanced skills. Also, through inclusive nature of the program and peer interaction, children will begin to recognize one anothers abilities, promoting understanding, acceptance, and respect as they build new friendships. Circles of Life REGISTRATION AND INFORMATION NOW AVAILABLE
The Circles of Life Conference is for families who have children of any age with disabilities or special health care needs and the professionals who support and provide services for them. The conference is a unique opportunity to develop new skills, hear the latest information, and form lasting friendships. 2013 CREATE Conference Connecting Schools and Communities: Promising Practices in Culturally Responsive Education
Every Wisconsin student has the ability to learn, yet we struggle to effectively educate all students. Too often, race is a predictor of success in Wisconsin schools. We want to change that. The CREATE Conference is one initiative of the CREATE Grant which addresses the achievement gap amongst diverse student populations and works to eliminate race as a predicting factor of participation in special education. The Department of Public Instruction, Wisconsin school districts, and Cooperative Educational Service Agencies are uniting to identify, promote, and implement new practices in culturally responsive education.
