Introduccin a las Teoras Contemporneas de la Justificacin Epistemica

DESCRIPCION DEL CURSO

En este curso examinaremos de manera crtica las corrientes filosficas mas importantes que han surgido en el rea de las teorias de la justificacin epistemolgica en la segunda mitad del siglo XX y lo que va del XXI.. Enfatizaremos el estudio de teoras de vigencia contempornea. Los temas que consideraremos son: El fundamentalismo epistemolgico, teoras coherentistas de la justificacin epistmica, teoras externalistas y causales, la epistemologa de las virtudes, el surgimiento de la epistemologa naturalizada, problemas en la epistemologa social tales como la justificacin epistmica y el testimonio, y la epistemologa de expertos.

REQUISITOS DEL CURSO

1. Un EXAMEN a mitad del curso sobre los temas que se hayan discutido hasta ese momento. 2. Un ENSAYO critico sobre algunos de los temas discutidos en clase. Este ensayo requerir que los alumnos hagan su propia investigacin sobre el tema escogido.

NOTAS
(a) Un mes antes de la fecha limite para su entrega, cada alumno entregar un ESQUEMA del ensayo que incluir el tema elegido, las partes que compondrn su desarrollo y una bibliografa tentativa. (b) El ensayo ser a mquina (o impresora) a doble espacio, en hojas tamao carta engrapadas. Por favor, no traer el ensayo en folders o engargolado. Mximo 15 pginas. 1

(c) Citar las fuentes usadas de manera completa; esto incluye autor, nombre de la obra o articulo, editorial o lugar en el que se encuentra el articulo, ao de edicin, autor de traduccin (cuando sea pertinente), pginas citadas, etc. (d) Evitar citas muy largas a menos que sean cruciales; y explicar despus en tus propias palabras lo que el autor esta afirmando en esa cita. (e) Evitar tambin parafrasear a un autor cambiando solo algunas cuantas de sus palabras. Da una mala impresin de ticomo que no puedes decir las cosas con tus propias palabras. (f) EVITAR EL PLAGIO. Es fcilmente detectable y muy costoso para el estudiante.

PARTE I. LA EPISTEMOLOGA ANALTICA. Fundamentalismo. Varios filsofos a travs de la historia han sugerido que la nica diferencia (o, al menos, una de las diferencias) entre el conocimiento y la mera opinin consiste en el hecho de que aquel es una estructura piramidal, en cuya base se encuentran ciertas creencias bsicas, que sostienen y justifican el resto de la estructura. 1. Teoras Coherentistas. Examinaremos una teora del conocimiento y de la justificacin epistmica que sostiene que una creencia esta justificada si y solo si pertenece a un sistema coherente de creencias que cumple con ciertas condiciones. Analizaremos tambin las objeciones que otros filsofos han formulado en contra de esta teora. 3. Laurence BonJour, Holistic Coherentism en Louis P. Confiabilismo Ciertos filsofos sostienen que el conocimiento (y/o la justificacin epistmica) consiste en una relacin de cierto tipo entre nuestras creencias y objetos o hechos que no son mentales. 5. Internalismo vs. Externalismo. La oposicin entre, por ejemplo, coherentismo por un lado, y confiabilismo por el otro, podra expresarse como una oposicin mucho ms general, entre dos grandes tipos de teoras de la justificacin epistmica: el internalismo y el externalismo.

La Justificacin en la Epistemologa de las Virtudes La idea de esta corriente es la entender a la justificacin de las creencias como aqullas que resultan del ejercicio de virtudes intelectualesdonde la manera en que se entiende lo que es una virtud intelectual vara de autor a autor. Aqu estudiaremos dos de las principales propuestas a este respecto.

La Epistemologa Naturalizada de Quine. Algunos filsofos, como Quine, creen que la epistemologa, como una disciplina filosfica, debera "naturalizarse", es decir, operar como una disciplina que no se distinga radicalmente de las ciencias naturales en lo que respecta a su metodologa y sus temas. 11.
